Is this possible? I mean, they say they use the local bandwidth, so why can't the average user do it themselves? Or is there some kind of agreement with Telkom?

they use local from you to them
and then they use their international afterwards

jeppe777, maybe for you yes but I won't even consider using SAIX with Openbrowse. Also, I think it's unfair for you to use SAIX bandwidth for Openbrowse when the service you originally subscribed to is attached to an IS account. Please don't complicate things for other users on this forum.

Dude. You can do it yourself if you want to. It's called a proxy server. :p No "agreement" with nobody but themselves.

But OpenBrowse can work on any other ISP account as well. You don't Need to use OpenWeb's Local Only accounts.

Can you tell me how to? On openweb's page it says you can only have it with their accounts!

I have the sae problem pooky I bought the 30gig local cap but it does not seem like it is working. I called them and they said I should fill my details into my router settings....but I dont know where to fill in those details. Can somebody please help me! E-mail at [email protected], thanks;)

KillSw!tch, if you purchased a Openweb account with Openbrowse, Openweb would have emailed you instructions on how to set up Openrouter which configures your browser automatically. Did you purchase a 30Gig local only account? or did you purchase 30Gig local with Openbrowse proxy? Purchasing a 30 Gig local only account does not come with Openbrowse.

i've got ADSL at work. i'm trying to set up Wireless ADSL at home. do i still need a line from telkom?

KillSw!tch, contact Openweb and get Openbowse on top of your 3-Gig local account. I think it's like R60.00 extra...

Thats kinda stupid - It's a proxy service. Not the first time we have something like that in SA. Back in the days NukeCap allowed you to use Any ISP of your liking. My bad then I guess.

Pooky, do you know how this OpenBrowse operates?

No not really, but from your previous post you said that one can do it yourself?

OpenBrowse Questions
OpenBrowse allows you to browse internationally after you have reached your cap! OpenBrowse runs over your remaining local bandwidth after your initial cap has been reached. You can choose one of the following three (3) OpenBrowse packages:

OpenBrowse 192k - R60
OpenBrowse 384k - R90
OpenBrowse 512k - R139

OpenBrowse Questions

OpenBrowse is a fantastic add-on service offered exclusively by OpenWeb. OpenBrowse was designed with those in mind who would only like to surf the internet and have no need for additional protocols such as FTP, Telnet, Voip etc.
OpenBrowse uses proprietary software called OpenRouter to connect your machine to the OpenBrowse service which then enables you to browse international pages using your LOCAL ONLY bandwidth.
There are no limitations on browsing, and OpenRouter will gladly transfer any HTTP/HTTPS traffic for you! Please note that OpenBrowse will not transfer any other protocols, and cant be used for downloading, streaming, Voip, etc.

What is OpenBrowse?
Openbrowse is a OpenWeb add-on service that enables you to browse internationally hosted pages using local only bandwidth!

Why can't I download files using OpenBrowse?
Openbrowse is a Proxy service designed for web browsing - that's it, browsing. OpenBrowse is not perfect for everyone, but if it suits your needs it allows you Web Surfing at a fraction of the cost a normal DSL solution would cost.

Will OpenBrowse download my internationally hosted mail (such as Gmail, and Hotmail)?
Yes - Web based email accounts can be accessed via http url and is therefore supported by Openbrowse. Any WEB BASED email account will work using OpenBrowse.

Are my OpenBrowse login details the same as my DSL login details?
Generally, no - you are assigned a separate user name and password for Openbrowse.

Can I use OpenBrowse even when connected via another ISP?

As OpenBrowse is an OpenWeb add-on service you will need to have an OpenWeb DSL account first for the service to work.

How many computers can log in with the same OpenBrowse login details at the same time? (Concurrent sessions)

One computer can connect using your OpenBrowse user name and password. If you have a network you can set up the rest of the network to use that machine as a proxy server, thus enabling them to browse the web.

Is OpenBrowse secure? Will my browsing history be saved/ stored anywhere?

Openrouter creates a VPN tunnel between you're computer, and the OpenBrowse proxy server. It is completely secure, and the only data captured is on your local machine. We do not store browsing history.

How do I enable OpenBrowse?
OpenBrowse is enabled by downloading a very small piece of software called OpenRouter. Once installed you simply log in with your provided OpenBrowse login details, choose which web browser you're using and wait for the magic to happen.

Which Operating Systems are supported by OpenBrowse?

As OpenBrowse uses proprietary software called OpenRouter to connect you to the service it will only run on Microsoft Windows Operating systems.

Where can I download OpenRouter from?

OpenRouter may be downloaded from: http://www.openweb.co.za/openrouter/OpenRouter_0_08.exe

More about OpenRouter:
After downloading, and installing OpenRouter click on the OpenRouter Icon to activate.
You will be prompted to log into OpenRouter. You will need to enter your supplied OpenRouter details here. You will have received a welcome email from us containing these details. Should you not have received this e-mail, please e-mail [email protected]

You will not need to make any configuration changes to OpenRouter except to tell it which browsers to automatically configure for you. Simply tick/ untick the appropriate boxes, and the software will take care of the rest for you! Minimize OpenRouter, and enjoy the surfing!
