Ok I know this is probably a cheezy thread to start but I have really had my eyes opened since I have had ADSL.

I have used 3g(some months R5000) and IBurst and frankly you just can't compare the low latency of ADSL.

I just made my first hour long skype call to a mate in Pretoria, started playing online options on some of my games. Also started listening to online radio.

I just wanna say thanks to SAOL for their 384 uncapped, you have made my life that much easier and opened my eyes to more than just simple webpages,

ok enough fanboi stuff, but I will be listening to the guys in the forum more often, I resisted going to ADSL cause I didn't wanna pay the devil(telkom) anymore money.

If you are on 3G or Iburst and can get ADSL, don't wait save yourself time frustration and money and go with ADSL!!!:)

You should try a 4mbps line. Instant streaming video ftw. Download 10GB in a single night...

Of course you need the cap to back it up. :)

well. not quite instant, but muuch better than 384 . and thats 19 gig in a night (8 to 8 :D)

Yeah I always tell my boss my 384 adsl line is way better than his 3.6mbps 3G... Won't believe me though.

R5000 pm before you started investigating other options? Damn.

Anyway, glad you found something suitable.

You are still indirectly paying telkom for the line, SAOL is just handling it for you.

Yip, have to agree - GLAD YOU OPENED YOUR EYES!! R5000.00 a month - bet your wife is just as pleased :D

If your willing to pay R5000 a month for your internet I'm surprised you didn't go with a 4MB line with an uncapped plan for R2500.

The 5000 wasn't every month thats just the biggest month I had... to be honest I will never go back to per gig pricing. Not because I want to keep a copy of the Interwebz in case of emergency, I just like the convenience of not worrying about my use. I do download but it is mostly between 12pm and 8am so I don't think SAOL cares about it.

Axxess has uncapped after hours 4mb and uncapped 192k in office hours for R999 so with a 4mb line its about R1500/mo.

congrats on the move. i wish everyone in this silly country caught a similar technology insight and made the switch, so that telkom would be under more pressure to fix the damn copper theft problem.. right now it's pathetic wireless as the alternative, because most people don't know how much better adsl really is...

Ditto buddy! Also leaving 3g after 4 years.I also signed with SAOL and am just awaiting activation.3g although fast, cannot compete againsed asdl.Even if it is only 384.I will download in 1 day what used to be my monthly cap.

Guys I must say that my 384 line provides a way smoother connection than my 3g ever did, 3g is fast but it isn't responsive or have the ping that ADSL has so VOIP and gaming are no go areas. SO 384 is a WAY more functional than 3g.

IS is experimenting with hosting a local google cache. Right now it's only effective on some media such as some of youtube's actual 'content'/video. It's yet to be activated for google searching and youtube web interfaces though, but the potential is there...
