The download from Openelec keeps failing. I'm continually getting a network error after a couple MBs.

Does anyone know of an alternative download location for the generic build of 2.99.5?

downloaded this morning
seemed fine? I think
will check when I get home..

Mine seems to be downloading fine at the moment. Holding thumbs.

To those who have done the update already (from 1.0 or 2.0) is it entirely necessary to go through the process of removing libraries and asound.conf files, or can it update fine by simply adding the update files in the update folder?

BTW, my openelec machine had no upgrade folder in 'storage'. I had to create the folder myself and couldn't find any references to others having this problem which is odd...

I've tried numerous times to d/l the Raspberry Pi version today and on each occasion the d/l bombs out.

I got to 99% and it failed. Happened another 4 times now at various points in the download. Reverted to Folx download manager in the hope that it will resume it this time if it fails. What a waste of bandwidth on my capped account...

Were you looking via ssh or via Samba shares?
Cos if ssh, it's called .update and you won't see it in an ls unless you use the -a switch

[email protected]'s password:
root ~ # ls
downloads music sports
emulators musicdb.xml tvshows
fixsab.sh pictures videos
logfiles recordings xbmc_videodb_2012-12-03
lost+found sab.sh

root ~ # ls -a
. .swfinfo music
.. .temp musicdb.xml
.ash_history .update pictures
.bash_history .xbmc recordings
.bash_rc .xbmc.bk sab.sh
.cache downloads screenshots
.config emulators sports
.config.bk fixsab.sh tvshows
.python-eggs logfiles videos
.ratpoison_history lost+found xbmc_videodb_2012-12-03
.ssh

DJ, paste the download link, will download it here and upload to a server tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer but Folx manager downloaded it without a hitch. But now the system won't update...:(

I was looking using Samba with hidden files on. So I created the update folder and chucked the 4 files in there and rebooted - nothing happened...apart from a reboot. :D

Three times. Something is not right here. I also don't know if it is supposed to be renamed '.update' instead of 'update' but Windows won't let me rename the file that way either.

Christ, I really hate it when geeks make things so fscking complicated. It's a bloody update ffs. I should be able to click a fscking button and it updates. Not backing up databases, SSHing in (which I can't seem to do btw as the openelec password doesn't work), remove files, add files, and then completely reconfigure the entire bloody machine!

The samba share "update" points to .update on the filesystem. You can't just rename shares ;)
What version are you running now?

Also, root password is openelec. Don't ssh in as openelec....

The v2 to v3 upgrade is quite major as the XBMC library format changed completely. I'm intrigued to see how they will automate it when V3 goes to release...

I have no idea what this means. I'm running 1.95.2. Definitely no update folder in there at all...

Okay as far as I'm concerned you're now speaking a different language. In (Mac) terminal, I type in ssh 10.0.0.4 and I'm asked for a password to the openelec box. Nothing I type there works...

They've said they might automate it. Personally I want to update it now as things are just really not working the way they should on this machine at the moment...

let me guess. I have to update to a version of 2.xx.x before I can update to this RC?

In your mac terminal, type ssh [email protected], and then the password is openelec. It's trying to log in as your username, otherwise.

Where in Joburg are you? Maybe this weekend if I get a mo' free I can pop round and help you with the upgrade if you like...

Okay so I switched downloads to automatic, powered off and on again and now it appears to be hanging at the part where it shows 'SYSLINUX 4.05 EDD" etc when it starts up.

Is this how it updates? :wtf:

Or is something else now wrong? I don't see the HDD nor the network lights flashing as if they're doing anything...
