What about FileZilla and ClamWIN. Would be nice if Windows had an app store or software centre interface like Ubuntu/Mint.

Launchy.

I shoulda patented that idea.

Mentioned in TK long ago before I knew such a thing existed :D

XBMC is my current pick for the most complete, professional bit of open-source software.

Hi Alistair,

Is this OSS software list or a freeware list ?

AFAIK Paint.net isn't opensource as in the latest version you can only get the source code by decompiling.
From the wiki:
Excluding the installer, text, and graphics, Paint.NET was released under a modified version of the MIT License.[6] It was initially released as completely open source, but due to breaches of license, all resource files (such as interface text and icons) were released under a Creative Commons license forbidding modification, and the installer was made closed-source.[7]

Version 3.36 was initially released as partial open source as described above, but the sources were later removed by Brewster, citing problems with plagiarism. In version 3.5, the license was altered to reflect this, and users are now prohibited from modifying the software. As free licenses cannot be revoked, developers can still legally develop forks based on version 3.36 and earlier. Unlike most proprietary software licenses, however, the new license allows users to decompile and reverse engineer the software, provided that no modifications are made.

Brewster later stated that he hopes to release portions of the source code back into the public.

Paint.Net is not open source !!

edit ... oops I see someone mentioned already.. my bad :(

Initially it was and the previous version is. Free licenses cannot be revoked, developers can still legally develop forks based on version 3.36 and earlier.

Most tech content on the web whether you like it or not are rehashed from other sources. Hence journalist will combine their best list from a list of other sources without actually doing research if in fact what is said is true or not. I suspect this is the case here as most people will like Dan think Paint.net has never been OSS.

It was open source yes and I know that for years !!!, but no longer ... so I don't think it can be classified as open source in our day and age. (maybe under Free Apps ?)
But saying all of that, Paint.Net is one of those apps I cannot do without , been using it for years and loving it !! :) and what exactly does "as most people will like Dan think" mean ? :D

I was about to suggest the same.

Also... no list is complete without LibreOffice IMO.
