R385 vir Open Office, wat gratis beskikbaar is? Naa.

Guys, this is the freedom of OSS--but, why sell the product at a premium. if you download OOo (local mirrors such as www.mirror.ac.za) change the language to Afrikaans during setup? or if not then I think there is an add-on language pack that you could download, also for Free as in mahala-free. My 10c.

Ek wonder of OpenOffice, "OopKantoor" genoem gaan word?
Tx for that comment, YsmanMichiel! I guess the golf you drive is made by Peoplescarriage? :D

I have been using various applications in Afrikaans, including Openoffice and Firefox. After a few days you don't even notice the difference.

Screw the guys at Translate.org.za, They charge R385 for OOo? They should contribute to the OpenOffice project instead of profiteering from it. A lot of people have given a number of free hours to make OpenOffice a great product that it is today, now you have freeloaders from Translate.org.za wanting to make a quick buck.

My punt exactly.
There is a Zulu version and Xhosa version for those multi-linguals.

Translate.org.za (Dwayne Bailey) ARE the guys that have done by far the majority of the Open Source translation work for OOo, Firefox, etc. In Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa etc.

What is being discussed here is a physical boxed version which likely also includes support.

I have much respect for great achievements of the Translate.org.za guys.

If its not their intend to profiteer, then, like a reasonable non-profit organization that they are, they should make it available for download for those of us that don't want a box full of manuals or their telephonic support.

To move from OOo (R0.00) to Translate.org.za OOo(R385.00) is a major leap, what's the percentile increase? How could they even justify that price?

R385 for a manual, cds, support not to mention the hundreds of hours of hard work that has gone into the translation tools (which incidently are helping the whole of Africa get software into different languages) is not a bad deal. Go for it translate.org - you are doing outstanding work!!!!!!

Ek weet nie van die ander nie, maar ek gebruik wel Nederlandse programme. Natuurlik verkies ek Afrikaans, maar sal eerder 'n Nederlande program/vertaling bo 'n Engelse weergawe verkies.

How many hundreds of hours have gone into making OpenOffice? Translate.org.za guys are freeloaders who make a mockery of Free Software. How much does it cost to buy and brand 1 CD?

You must be part of Translate.org.za. R385 is a bad deal, a very bad one, how the fsuk are they helping Africa when they are charging almost US $50 for a free product, when many people across Africa are struggling to afford a basic computer. R385 is unjustifiable , they should make OOo free for download for those who don't want their manual, cd or support, until then, they are profiteering @#%%^!^~^%&*. :D

You fail to realise that so much more went into this product than just branding. Translate.org.za does more for translation and localisation of OpenOffice and general open source for South Africa and our official languages than any other group or groups of people. See the R385 as a donation to cover their development/translation/localisation costs.

Note that you are free to download Open Office and all related localisation/translation parts included in this package for free, as all of translate.org.za's products are released under an open source license.

Your argument is baseless.
