Openserve Aerial

Openserve don't need their permission. The poles are always in the municipal servitude area.

Not always. In our area a lot of the Telkom poles are in the inside corners of properties, usually at the back where two properties meet, well inside the boundaries of the properties and not in any municipal servitude.

It does not really matter where the poles are, private or municipal- they are allowed access

Precisely...that is where municipal servitude area is. About 1m/1.5m on both sides of all 4 boundaries.

That's the reason you can't build there. That is where water meters are, always within that area.

Section 22 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2005 covers their acces to private & public property. There's also a constitutional court case affirming this.

Ah they did the black box on the telephone poles by us (same area) start of the month, area was in pre-order phase June. Neighbour next door refused access to span the cable across to the other pole and they left that at that. Guys running the cables said we should be live by the end of this month but things are looking...eish. Seems like its just her house that needs cabling in our road. Any idea how long these things take I am just excited to get a decent upload speed/latency since its still WFH for me :/

Second cable has been added completing the link, lots of technicians are frantically digging up pavements, blowing fibre backhaul to street cabinets and adding more poles in some areas. Also seen more making an effort to get access to the backyards, coming more often now.

They are installing Aerial fibre in our area as well. But they attached a black box on the side of the wall of the house close to the roof. Is this the same box they attach to the phone poles.

Openserve tech that checked my adsl line today said we will without a doubt be going live end of this month. Counting the days now...

Do they install the drop cable and ONT during pre-order phase?

Fiber from pole to house + ONT install is all done on the day.

When my install was done it took a few hours and they arrived the day after I got notification that the install request had gone through to Openserve.

Hi Everyone

Ater nearly 36 months, OS installed Aerial Fibre at my premises about a month ago, but not live on the maps yet to order for drop cable, my question is how long do these "Conformance Testing" guys take to sign of the project and make services available for ordering?

For the tech nerds I have attached photos of current installation

Many thanks!

Regi

This process can take anything from a few weeks to a few months. Unfortunately Openserve release blocks at a time, so this means that your pole may be ready, but an entire section or block needs to be complete before it's made live.

I understand but this installation was specially done for my business only (commercial Hotel) it cost OS in the range of R50k for the Gpon and cabling, we are 150m from Exchange, although my neighbours wil now benefit as they can apply for the service too...the network planning dude from OS told me after Conformance testing it will take 14days for my area to be made live.Guess I will have to stare at these black boxes for a few months and hold my breath?

Out of curiosity does Vuma also only open blocks at a time or do they open the entire area at once?
