Good day,

Does anyone know how to configure a Dlink router to get IPv6? My FNO is Openserve and I am running through them as ISP as well.

I tried google and I phoned Telkom technical support, who didn't know what IPv6 was so thought maybe someone here know how to set it up?

I don't have the model number with me currently but it's a very recent install and it's the Dlink they supply.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, I did end op there but is Afrihost settings the same as Openserve though? Also my Dlink doesn't show an option to add dual stack. Its either PPPoE, DHCP or Bridge. The interface looks different
I think you need to confirm if they have enabled Ipv6 first as the ISP

Hi

From Afrihost website: 'PPPoE is used for an Openserve & Vodacom connection only. DHCP is used for all the other fibre providers.'

If you have Afrihost on Openserve you need PPPoE. Openserve is PPPoE only.

Check if your router model can do IPv6 PPPoE. Maybe you need a firmware update.

I am not sure about the firmware update, but this is not on Afrihost. Its naked Openserve with a D-link G2562DG. The interface looks different than the one on the Afrihost website

Your ISP has to support IPv6, it's not just something you can turn on.

Openserve natively supports IPv6, you should be able to get IPv6. Not sure why they would supply a router that does not support IPv6 although.

A reminder, Openserve is the wholesale (L2) provider and not one and the same with Telkom anymore. Openserve's wholesale L2 network supports IPv6 for ISPs like us who run native IPv6. Telkom is a retail ISP. As far as I know, Telkom ISP doesn't support IPv6 for FTTH connections (but I stand to be corrected). There is a unique case where Openserve is the ISP and L2 provider, and this is the 1 month free promo they are currently running. This is effectively a Telkom service over Openserve infrastructure, so no IPv6 there.

If OP is using the 1 month Free, they should choose an ISP who runs IPv6 once the promo ends. If OP is with Telkom internet, then they are a Telkom client using Openserve and likely won't be able run IPv6.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for chipping in here. I am going to go with your explanation as you are an ISP. When I phoned Telkom they didn't know what I was on about. I am not on the free promo. Its business fibre at my business and I signed a 24-month contract. Stupid me. I was so glad to finally have fibre available didn't think straight. Well then...maybe in future, probably when there is no IPv4 addresses left...
