For the past few weeks I have noticed lots of trenches being dug all over Cape Town including Mitchells Plain and yellow cables being laid. There is always an Openserve van nearby and a lot of activities near Telkom exchange boxes. Are they laying fibre? Is a line upgrade coming? What sparked this aggressive approach?

Forgive me if I posted in the wrong section.

In my area they were just upgrading the exchange, as I know this area will never see fiber. Had few openserve fans in the area.

They have updated the coverage map for my area now to show the 20mps VDSL, through ordering system still show the 4mps with the upgrade in progress.

So it could be fiber or vdsl upgrade.

I've seen Openserve installing a manhole in my area also and saw the other day they pulling fiber in the main road, they busy installing a MSAN not to far from me also. My exchange is on VDSL, but just waiting on Telkom to switch me over, doubt we'll get fiber, but 40mb/s is good enough for me.

They are laying fibre everywhere. They are not going to invest in copper when it's redundant.

UPDATE: According to Openserve's Coverage Map, my area is now covered for VDSL, however it still shows 4Mbps max line speed.

Is this a typo or am I missing something?
