Hi all,

Moving to a fibre enabled security estate in the Northern Suburbs in CT and looking at going with Webafrica as an ISP. I've heard good things about them and they have a news server which is always good.

My question is how long does it take for a technician to come out and install the ONT? The estate has fibre and the connection has already been run to the house. When I spoke to the team at Webafrica they advise that it takes 4-10 weeks for someone to come out and install. Is this everyone's experience?

TIA.

Regards,

Ryan

I'm also in the Northern suburbs, Fibre runs past my house, been waiting for 5 weeks and 2 days now.

I've also ordered a line through WebAfrica for my flat and I am curious to know how long it will take.

From what I can tell, the building already has the infrastructure. In fact, there is a fibre box just outside my door (at least I'm fairly certain that's what it is), so I anticipate it won't be a hassle for them.

Telkom here, which is OpenServe, right? I think I see where you're going with this...

Nope, very little info is available about the response times for new installs on fibre with any of the providers around, so just trying to ensure the info we get is correct for each of the providers.

Fibre install is a little more complicated than an ADSL install .....

Hi all, to be clear the infrastructure within the complex (Oakwood Estate) has been for some time as has the install from the road to the house. All Openserve needs to do is send out a technician to connect up an ONT, thereafter Webafrica will courier their fibre router to me. So I'm struggling how it takes Openserve 4 to 10 weeks to put in the ONT and configure it?!?

Hi guys,

The install times with Openserve is unfortunately not the best. They are the one provider who cannot give us a set time-frame. Once the order is placed they will assess the order and then give us an estimated date for installation. The installation times we get from Openserve is about 2-10 weeks and even longer if they need to do additional work.

I know its not great but we are really pushing our account manager on our installations and have been getting some good results but have to stick to those time-frames.

So there is a fibre termination point already installed in your home?

Yes 4 - 10 weeks does not make sense if that is the case.

@daniellegr - Yip, there is a point already installed in the home.

@Weafrica Helper - Can you provide me with the reference number that was given by Openserve to you, so I can try and follow up from my side. Will this make a difference?

To top it off, we have these Telkom agents who come every month and offer you fibre. And then you tell them "but I applied 6 weeks ago" to which they say "OK you will be contacted". It's usually 2 guys walking around with blue shirts.

Spoke to Webafrica on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and was told each time that their Operations team would get back to me by 12h00 each day, but no call. On the Wednesday, I was eventually given an update from the call centre that my order with Openserve had been escalated and that they will contact me in the coming week. Let's wait and see...

Same with me. Every time they say they'll get back to me "later today" but then they don't. I'm considering cancelling the order and going to another ISP who is more deserving of my money.

I don't think we should take this out on our ISP's as they cannot control this. Your ISP (WA) and mine (CW) are all relying on Openserve to do the actual installation. Both of our ISP's are contacting Openserve and escalating the matter which I don't think even helps, but is the only thing that they can do. Fact is, Openserve doesn't have enough people to do the installation so we must just wait.

I made the dumb decision of cancelling my ADSL because I thought Fibre wouldn't take longer than a month to complete, and now I can't re apply for ADSL because open serve wants to force us into using Fibre.

I do understand that OpenServe's service is out of their control but if somebody says to me "I'll phone you back later today" and then doesn't, several times, it really does not make a good impression. How do I know my order isn't still sitting on somebody's desk at WA?

Gotcha, missed that, and fully agree with you.
