We have Vuma aerial fibre in our area and have been on it for about 3 years with Afrihost as the isp. The service has been great but the price very high compared to Openserve and normal vuma packages. Some people in my area said they have swapped to Openserve who are piggybacking off vuma network in order to offer the service. I cant find any information on this online. If I search on openserve site with my address it says we are not covered. Any idea if this is even possible? I am trying to lower my fibre costs and any advice would be much appreciated.

Unless you have a lower speed package, Vumatel is actually cheaper than Openserve right now.

There’s definitely no piggy backing happening. It all depends on what coverage your address has. Openserve have been aggressively overbuilding nationally- and it’s possible some parts of your area have both operators. But use that coverage map to guide you.

Maybe the OP means that Openserve are using the same poles as Vumatel ?

We had vuma put up wooden poles and no other service provider was in the area before this. It could be that Openservice is using the same poles. There is a resident a short distance away from me who says he worked through Vox to get openserve and is saving half of what he was paying with Vuma Aerial.
This is exactly what I also need answering. I'm with Vuma Aerial, same as you, and wanting to make the switch to Openserve.
If they could use the same poles as Vuma, that'd be ideal for me.

He obviously does not know the technical details of how it was done..
I worked thru Vox, our ISP.
Applied, approved, notice to Vuma, Openserv switch-over done. It took a month, because of Vuma notice period.
Same ISP, same account number, faster line, almost half the fee.
Vuma came to take out their stuff 2days after Open connected theirs- router, fibre box
