OpenView HD - Anyone using it?

Don't trust house and home. Incredible connection can honor such errors. They have a notice oops we noticed an error. Seriously someone should have done proof reading.

The price you see is the price you should pay don't make our problem your problem.

I will go to Game and see if they can do a price match.

So are you saying house & home are not honouring their offer?

No. Ovhd will not work on DSTV dish.

With Freevision being out of the question with the crap line up they got to offer OVHD seems to be the better option.

So even if you have DSTV you can't use the dish with the OVHD decoder? You will have to get the full set up?

You will have to re-align the dish, but should be able to use it. Top TV installed dish already points in the correct direction.

Did you go to House and home?
I am going now to house and home will keep you posted if they do supply me with the installation box for R849, did read their brochure. No errors and emissions whatsoever, throw them the consumer act. http://issuu.com/houseandh/docs/houseandhome_23_to_27_october?e=7375577/5305144..

@Quantum Theory I will buy directly from the supplier probably it is R100 cheaper if I am lucky that SPACE tv want to give me a disconnect. I prefer the Space TV box, will be ready for future pay models, highly doubt it will work with TOP TV, anything is possible if you supply them the decoder nymvber

I managed to set OVHD up with an Elsat 60cm dish and it is working fine so far.

I had to move the dish to a North-facing wall. At first I got no signal, then I found some details about using the 12341Mhz transponder which gave a signal but no channels. It helped to align the dish for the best signal though, which is only 82% strength, 54% quality. Then I switched back to the original transponder and the channel search worked.

I found it very useful to make a Skype video call between my netbook and phone (via wifi/adsl). So I could see the decoder signal indicator on my phone while making minor adjustments. The alignment had to be far more precise than for DSTV. Eg the elevation of 48degrees given by dishpointer gave no signal, I got the best just above 45degrees. I use a hack to rotate the dish horizontally... a 1cm spacer under one side of the bracket was needed to get a signal on the original transponder.

They didn't want to honour it all, even the manager phoned someone high up from head office. They do actually put it on their catalog a notice will be in in-store. This isn't the first time House and Home has done this, they have on several occasions. They should actually honour the offer. If i remember clearly in the consumer act, they cannot play this tactic to lure customers in-store.

They will lose at least R400 rand a pop, for every offer they honour... So, I doubt they will.

If they did would be good marketing you know. 10 x units per store R4000 :) Good way to lure unsuspecting customers and putting a notice on the counter. I am sure if I was there the day they advertised it, earlier hours of the morning I would have gotten luck probably.

That is correct and you will need to replace your existing DSTV LNB for one working in the same freq range as TopTV/OVHD.

Did you go to House and home?

Yes, I did! Unfortunately I wasn't lucky as they didn't want to honour their promotion *Including Installation&Dish*, just the decoder but did mange to get a job elsewhere selling decoders off the shelves and informing customers.

Ok thanks morkhans. So I'll just get the decoder and have the dish re-aligned.

That will be your cheaper option and go directly to SPACE TV offices and purchase an LNB. That way when you get an installer out you will prbably have to pay him R400 labour but if you want a spare DISH rather get the installer :)

I don't know if this is the correct forum / thread for this question.
I want to know the advantages of Openview and the SABC equivalent (Sanel????). Is there another alternative in South Africa? What channels/programmes are available? Where can I find daily programmes schedules?
Can one still get SABC (non-digital) whilst using the Openview decoder thing? Yes ..... I have looked at the website for Openview ... it is quite unheplful regarding these queries. I have never had a decoder for DSTV / Mnet.

Thank you

go to etv.co.za, you will see a guide for the e branded channels.

@ebbing 2003 one day you will need to purchase a STB(if it becomes reality in South Africa) just alone the decoder might set you back R700 excluding installation of antenna etc.

I would recommend to hold on purchasing a OpenView HD decoder and wait for FreeVision to launch, haven\t seen their hardware on the market as yet.

OpenView would be a nice alternative if you are sick and tired of using bunny aerial to receive your SABC/ETV signal or other free channels available example Soweto TV.

More, More, More, channels will be added to the listing. Who knows maybe there will be a reality tv channel in the near future. If that is the case then OpenView will win, but they are marketing the product a lot on eTV.

Still some questions are left unanswered also view their website it has been updated since last time www.openviewhd.co.za
