OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Hi thaabiet

Please drop me a PM. I would like to test the account for you

Is anyone here on the 2mb "Gold" accounts? How has it been performing?

Mine has been, for lack of a better word, mediocre. Utterly mediocre for a good while now even after logging tickets. Makes me wonder If i'm on a gold account at all. Streaming 480p buffers every few seconds even during the evening when I'm suppose to be getting better speeds. Not to mention getting consistent sub 1mb speeds when doing a speedtest. The account really only seems to perform in the ungodly hours of the night when normal people are sleeping.

I wasn't quite asking about how stats are monitored. I am asking about the second session on the clients account.

Unless you are saying that IS's stat viewing tool is creating another session on the persons account, whilst they are checking their usage? Can you you somehow tell us that this is in fact true for instance why running this by IS?

I have asked Leon for input:

It is not a fault. It is the way in which we monitor (or not monitor) usage.

Currently, only usage on our CP is accurate on accounts where usage is monitored.

We are working on changing this but it will only be ready once our new usage management system is ready. We are creating our own centralized system that will decipher usage information per account and display it to the user.

The same system will be in charge of network management. Unfortunately, we only expect this to be ready in a few months from now.

In the meantime, we ask that clients request usage stats to be monitored by emailing [email protected]

Leon:

The second, third, 4th etc session is part of the usage monitoring process. Sessions are used to gather usage, so it is part and parcel of the usage monitoring process.

The IS panel is not to be used to check usage on OpenWeb accounts as we do not use the stock standard IS accounts. We manage our own network, contention and shaping policies. The IS or any other tool that is not an OpenWeb tool will not produce information relating to specifically your account.

Ok now that reply is more direct and more what I was looking for. Would of been nice to verify this with IS themselves, but I guess you can't have you bread buttered on both sides. Thank you

@Leon

1. This might explain sessions from the same ESR/locale which is perfectly understandable. Why, case in point, was there an active session from the OP connected from the 8th in Bryanston, JHB, and another active session, connected from the 6th, from Durban Central?

2. Are there any OpenWeb accounts that allow two concurrent logins? Yes or no answer, please.

What in the actual ****? You need a 2nd or 3rd of 4th PPPoE session to a radius server to monitor usage?

1st of all, @Wackyza make up the idea that IS's monitoring tool is creating a 2nd session to record account usage, then you come back with the exact same line saying Openweb is doing that. Brilliant spinning IMHO.

2nd of all, anyone that knows anything about how radius works, know that a second session won't be able to request the data usage of the first session from the radius server. To get that data, the radius server records it into a database, and the usage stats is read from there. Do you honestly think, that there are not some clients that understand the fundamentals of how radius authentication and accounting works?

Unbelievable.

I have on few occasions logged a call and support has quoted me the combined usage where multiple connections where made to a single account(according to users.isdsl.net), telling me that my usage is not bad considering its a shaped account.

I have been loyal to openweb for years but as of late they have been shaping me to much, even after hours I struggle to watch SD youtube videos. What is the point of paying for a gold account if you get shaped so severely. Don't even bother asking to test my account, I have just got a "new" account that is shaped to death after 3 days (and no I am not abusing the account).

Anything amiss under Current/Incomplete Sessions? http://users.isdsl.net/currentsessions.php

Ye i sorted of asked the question hoping to get a trueful answer. I am hoping what cable guy stated is infact the truth and not just using my idea to put the topic to rest

I have been with Openweb for a little over a year now.2mbps Gold account.Over the past few weeks i expect to see torrents running at full speed after 9pm but this has not been the case.Yesterday I was getting 10kbps on a torrent, and then i switched to my axxess paid capped account and low and behold it was running at 400kbps.Put in my cancellation yesterday."Uncapped" in this country is a damn sham.

Shaping is not guaranteed to be totally removed after hours on a shaped product

However, we try our very best to make this a reality. This last week has been quite busy due to the Microsoft and Apple updates, but things should start settling again soon

Please PM me with your details.

I would like the guys to look into this for you.

You should still be able to browse etc during peak periods. It must not be unusable!

Thanks but no thanks.

There is a reason that I after more than 3 years of service with OW left and will not consider returning.

Support becomes a ping-pong email match with stock replies and 4 to 6 hours waits for the next pong that I can ping to.
The same issues are experienced over and over again with dead office-hours internet, account authentication issues and accounts that slowly die needing a new one issued.
Yet, in all of these situations, it was always my modem, my router, my line, my exchange... over and over again. 4 months of run-around and A-B service.
These magically disappeared with other ISP accounts.

Valid queries and questions here on this forum are glossed over.
Clients queries are "handled" here on this forum with off-kilter remarks, glib replies and an obfuscating of the issue.

Here, recently seen with Kido's query and PostmanPot's questions.
Round-and-round-and-round you go, glib reply and avoid an answer then accuse of spamming then snide aside and rinse-and-repeat.

I am sure that there are a number of devotees that will find no fault in your service... but I am also sure you may be surprised by the number that find fault with it too.

/pffft

+100
Always the run-around and evading the actual issues. I have also left OW after been with them for a number of years for these exact same reasons - Mainly for getting less than 15% of my expected bandwidth (10MB Gold Power) during business hours.
