OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Only openweb can show you that. The poster in question said he knew people who were given the exact same account names

They won't for obvious reasons.

However, If I am not mistaken I have seen people show screenshots in this thread (I cannot honestly be bothered to search for them now) where they're logged into SAIX.

The issue is that I know for a fact that the local Engen used my ADSL account in February this year. This info came from Telkom. Now I suppose I could get my contacts in Telkom to look into this again?
I presume the authentication takes place on a server somewhere and this is not so easy to get hold of?

Now tell me, if someone else is using my account, does this mean that chap's IP address is the same as mine?

thats possable that that can happen, but was it at the same time?

if it is thats a prob

but if he used to have that account in the past ,but he gotten a new one ,the other person got the account (that the other person used in the past) ,cuz it got send back to the "account pool"

Problem is that the OP claimed the two accounts were on different tiers. One Gold and the other Titan.

No issue with recycling usernames as long as its not sold at the same time to different people and as a different product to both. This is what the poster was claiming.

Sharing your ADSL account between multiple locations - A warning

@PP... interesting:

If you are having problems with your ADSL account occasionally dropping the connection, you might be using it at more than one location.

We have started noticing this trend lately as store owners use one ADSL account between two or three or more locations.

In some cases this will work just fine. In other cases this will appear to work, but the connection will work intermittently and in other cases it will not work at all.

It all depends on your service provider and adsl package.

Most service providers, like Afrihost, will require you to notify them of all of the ADSL phone numbers you want to use the package on. As long as you do this, then all locations will be able to stay connected permanently. This will only work on limited bandwidth packages (bundles). If you have an uncapped account, the second location will not work at all and the service provider will usually not allow you to use an uncapped package from multiple locations.

Sometimes your service provider will allow more than one location to share an ADSL account regardless of whether you tell them or not and regardless of whether you have a limited bandwidth package or an uncapped package. This can cause you headaches because they will simply protect themselves by only allowing one location to use the account at a time. So if you are downloading a menu at store 1, then that location will be granted a connection by the service provider, but the service provider will stop the internet connection at store 2 without notice. Then when store 2 wants to send an email or download an update, the service provider will connect them and stop internet to store 1. Basically they only allow one location to use the account at a time.

This can be very frustrating because you might not understand what the problem really is. The internet just seems to be unreliable.

So the safest thing to do is to tell your service provider which locations you plan to use the adsl from. They will advise you of what options they have and usually you will not pay any more to have two separate ADSL accounts. (except if you want uncapped packages).

I have a 2mb Gamers King account that does just fine after hours and on weekends - I understand that this performance is because of how these accounts are designed. Does Open Web have any other 2mb uncapped accounts under R300 pm that will perform similarly at all times of the day? My only real requirement is to be able to stream SD video. I don't download a great deal and don't play online games.

Thanks.

This could all be very simply resolved by Openweb to be honest. Shouldn't be difficult, nor proprietary to send the affected users the account connection logs...

Sand, ostrich = Openweb on this issue

It's not necessarily swept under anything as no proof has been posted and until it is its just a conspiracy.

The proof was posted in this thread. Both users with using the same account. There was pages of people posting their accounts names. U must of missed that.

I don't want to have to go through the whole thread again, can you link the posts.

Your account friends were probably away for the weekend.
I don't mind if the thing is throttled during the day on p2p. But I mean, TO THROTTLE IT ON A SUNDAY SO MUCH THAT I CANNOT DO AN ITUNES TRANSACTION, NOR SEND A SIMPLE E-MAIL IN GMAIL???? Count yourself lucky... you won't be singing this song in a few weeks or months when more users get piled onto your account.

i didnt say there was proof, just linked it so they can look back and at that pages they had the convo about the account sharing so it may be around there

but i didnt think someone posted like a pic showing they have the same account,as far as i remember

Yep, no proof was ever shown that i know of, except for cableguy contradicting himself on it. I reckon he was reprimanded, hence no more direct interaction on the subject with forumites
