OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

And others by memory, which I won't be trawling for.

Geez man, I wouldn't trust your memory if you cannot even remember what I posted a few minutes ago.

Firstly, you're quoting me where I'm saying that MrBeep said it and secondly it's exactly the posts where I corrected myself. Should I edit these and add a link to my post where I made the correction?

Do I seem to be the only one loving my gold account? Torrents and nzbs flying. All media downloads automated to go on at 2AM so that by the time I wake up, I already have everything.

I don't think there will be any use in that. The myths have already been perpetuated. Up to you though, but please don't lose sleep over it.

So the only explanation which makes sense is that Openweb has implemented far stricter shaping policies across the board for certain accounts. Perhaps they're making room for new subscribers without purchasing additional capacity?

It means that the other user on your account changed their behaviour - either they became downloaders or the account was re-assigned to someone else who downloads.

Each account can only throughput 10Mb/4Mb or whatever, so you are both fighting for that same throughput. If they are downloading using HTTP or something that has higher priority than NZB/torrent etc you will always get the short end of the shaping stick.

Trying to stream 720p youtube, stuttering every few seconds. It's 6.30. Some people must be working overtime considering the shaping!

My torrents on my Gold account are definitely not flying right now. I'm fluctuating between 20-50 kb/s on a torrent with 110 seeders and 30 leechers.

If I look at my SAIX usage stats, I can clearly see that there's another IP on the account which definitely isn't mine. Thing is, it's been that way since I got the account and was even more obvious in the Isdsl portal when it was accessible.

Anyway, my point is, even though there appears to be another user "sharing" the account with me, up until recently performance was great, so I really couldn't complain.

It was only at the end of April that things started getting bad during peak hours and even off peak was slow before midnight. I made the assumption that a third user had been added to the account, and hence decided it was time for me to move on and submit my cancellation notice.

After examining the account session history carefully, I concluded that there's still only one additional user on the account. Hence, I can safely assume nothing has changed since I got the account.

You know, my experience is the same. I had zero issues up until the end of April, so maybe you're right. Maybe they have implemented stricter shaping across the board?

Normally this time of night my torrents run full speed, but for the past few nights I've downloaded significantly less on torrents than I'm used to.

What the F???

I'm Barely getting 512k speed after 7 since end April...

Mr Beep/Keoma, please dont make us change ISP's again. This is unacceptable. Seems like you are becoming as bad as MWEB. :(

good evening
I have a afterhours account and am only getting 10k on a 10 meg line.
Anyone with the same problem.

Thanks

Johnathan

Mine's borked as well. Happened about 10 minutes ago, but it took me 8 minutes for me to log in and post this. :)

Time to switch to my backup account.

Oooooh, my ow account's not working :D Luckily, I'm using a Connection 4mb uncapped account. It's literally flying at mach 7 :D (provided by my dear mate, wingnut for free :love: Thanks mate!).

Well this is fantastic. It's definitely not business hours and I am sitting with 500 latency to EU on my OW account.

Switch to Afrihost, and guess what I get?

500 ms?

Nope.

400 ms?

Nope.

300 ms?

Nope.

A perfectly normal 200 ms to Europe.

Must be Telkom's fault. Or like I said earlier, lots of people working overtime because of the elections so OW is shaping the network.

Have to agree with all of you. The bottom has definitely fallen out. Time to abandon ship. Very glad I gave notice at the end of April - another month of this and I might have to dig out my old ISDN modem ;) Pity... it was good while it lasted.

I hope you gave your notice on/before the 25th of April..

I think there's a problem with IS. My backup IS account with Webafrica is also borked, using Afrihost 1GB and it works fine.

EDIT: All is working with Openweb again, but P2P still heavily shaped.

You're not the only one. My gold uncapped unshaped account has been on fire since I got it. Torrents and nzbs are also flying on my side, 24/7. Not to mention Steam downloads and HTTP...full speed all day, every day. Twitch has been pure bliss as well. But I suppose we need to keep quiet now before all the negative people start blaming us again for clogging up the pipes or that we work for OW :(
