OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Been unshaped on my unshaped, Titan and Everyday accounts all weekend.

MTN may be having some trouble, getting high latency on my connection to Cape Town but 10ms to Jhb, anyone else?

I generally get very good support from OpenWeb. Last time my connection went down, they had sorted the problem within 30 mins of sending a mail. DSL went down again sometime during the night, so just sent my mail and awaiting their response.

As a matter of interest, anybody else have downtime currently?

EDIT: nevermind, did another router reset and now everything is working fine.

OW did respond quickly and it seems it was a case of my modem acting all funny.

Quick question. How many of you guys having issues with your torrents have tried to bypass their shaping at any point? I've never tried to do anything to bypass their systems and have never had issues with torrent speeds (except when they are doing aggressive shaping due to "network load").

Its too much trouble not worth the effort. I don't have a VPN service at the ready, and besides, if I have to reconfigure the network, I run the risk of other things not working anymore. Too much irritation.

I am very happy elsewhere.
As for how much throttling was going on, the internet was throttled, even on supposed "uncapped/unthrottled/whatever" weekends, albeit to a lesser degree. How do I know this? Well the transfer speeds to and from my own website give a telling picture. My website is hosted in a datacentre in Cape Town. This weekend, with the new ISP, I have noticed how speeds from my website quadrupled. On OW the pictures took long to load, now its instantaneous. I won't bore the forum members with the speed test results or the speeds on a torrent, suffice to say my weekly anime downloads took 1/4 of the time they used to.

I know enough about how the internet SHOULD be versus what is to be had with OpenWeb.

My torrents are fine again as of this morning, so I have no idea what's going on. I'll continue to monitor their performance for now.

you have the bandwidth allocation for today then.. i had to switch to my Afrihost capped account just to open Gmail....

Have a look at this article on ITWEB - New Unshaped Packages by Openweb

http://www.itweb.co.za/index.php?op...d=134361:OpenWeb-offers-new-unshaped-packages

How can you offer new packages with all the current issues and questions ???

Mind Boggles..

Michael

According to OpenWeb CEO Keoma Wright, the company does not log usage statistics on its uncapped accounts, compared to other service providers that monitor client data "so that they can enforce drastic throttling policies, making an account slow or even unusable".

OpenWeb says its broadband service has no download limit or throttling...

Lol...

International HTTP downloads are really slow at the moment.

They can't bother to reply to all the complaints on this forum but they can still advertise on Facebook
