OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Hi how are ppl finding the Uncapped offers with the 50GB unshaped?

I signed up for it 2 days ago and so far its very dissapointing. even real time services are buffering on both accounts.

And its not my line as my other ISP accounts are 100%

So you also pissed away R300? Your money is your money but hey, Openweb is not what they used to be.

What is REALLY shock and I just can't see how they can do something like this is that I think ALL the hybrid packages are essentially the same account. I don't see why they would be any different because the account I got looks like a normal uncapped account. Nothing hybrid about it. Usage counted via http://userstats.isdsl.net includes all usage. The stats in the openweb control panel is the same as the IS usage tracker.

Buying the hybrid account is a WASTE of money. You are better off with a Titan uncapped account if it does not get shared then you get value for money otherwise yes you are just pissing away your money.

Openweb used to be cool back in the day where you bought a R129 IS local only account. Now its just a fraud of a operation.

EDIT: unshaped after hours my foot. I'm getting MAX 110KB/s now on torrents on a 4Mbps account while my @lantic account runs full speed. This does not even look like a basic IS account..... Connection.co.za account is even better.

I took that offer where you get 50% discount and the 50GB unshaped is suppose to be unshaped all the time which at the time I thought was a great deal.

it was also the only account that could offer me the line speed I have for a good price but owell.

what troubles me is speedtest is 100% but any realtime services are an issue.

Lol, you got screwed :)

They prioritize speedtest to show full line speed but then shape all other protocols.

I've always wondered about speedtest and IS-based uncapped accounts myself. With IS accounts (not specifically Openweb), it doesn't matter how badly throttled or shaped your internet is, you'll pretty much always get a very good result.

The only times that you don't get a good result is if there's an actual problem with the account or your line.

At least, this has been my personal experience with IS accounts.

Protip: If there's absolutely nothing wrong with your OW account, don't leave OW and move to another ISP :(

AH's shaping policy is more stricter when compared to OW's. Right now P2P is still being shaped (yes, even on this weekend).

YouTube constantly buffering. GMail takes ages to load. Disastrous ping in online gaming. HTTP downloads @ 40kBps. Torrents @ 0.5kBps.

However speedtest shows that my account is running like a charm!

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. :( My account worked quite well overall towards the end, but I left them because the amount of packet loss during peak hours became unbearable.

You need Business, or to look at WebAfrica's home uncapped if you can't afford AH Business.

Well, I'm based somewhere near East London. Problems? :( I'm seriously considering about upgrading my AH account to Business Uncapped.

If AH's free GB works well for you, then so should Business. Based on similar profiles.

I believe AH has an Eastern IPC, which I don't think is too problematic. It's mainly the South which is a problem.

The nearest AH IPC is based in Durban.
