Like I said "I would only go through the middle man if it was cheaper" which Openweb is not.

Because I cannot buy from SEACOM directly since I dont have an ECS license and also, I would need IPC and local transit to boot.

Yes everyone basically buys from resellers, but only on the basis that it is cheaper... eg. Telkom owns the local loop, Telkom owns IPC, Telkom owns local transit, but TelkomInternet is more expensive than WA and the likes, so although they are resellers, I will buy from them.

In the case of OpenWeb, what are you benefiting? Its not cheaper so you're dealing though the middleman without any benefit to you.

There is one benefit I can think of - you don't have to deal with Mweb, lol
 
So if you have a Telkom line and no ISP do you pay line rental every month?
If they debit money from your bank account, them ISP's, MWEB, why do they need payslips, Telkom payments etc..? Can't you just sign up for the uncapped offer without all the hassles?

Have you ever actually dealt with Mweb vs Openweb? I have, I can tell you right now who was quicker to resolve the problems I had, I can also tell you who was more knowledgeable about their own products, and it doesnt start with an 'O'

At the end of the day I don't like either of the two. But hey, if I'm going to take the product, it'll be through the source. My only concern is the fact that I know that MWEB has to enforce a contention ratio of at least 45:1 in order to achieve those prices. This worries me, so I will stick with my IS account for now where I know its on a 10:1 contention with dynamic bursting ability when the network is quiet after hours.

I think WA is pretty spot on about their comment wrt MWEB, I dont think its a matter of sustainability but I do think when the network get busy from more and more users signing up and leeching the hell outta there accounts that the contention ratio will have a really noticeable effect.

Mweb has been the most expensive ISP in the country for 15 years, you best believe there is a catch to this.... somewhere...

So even if there is a "Catch" (Why do I feel like fishing....some") there is no contract, so easy to bum out if required. No damage done. All this will do is set the ball rolling and curb these small "fish" hoping for becoming a quick Billionaire!

I hear you - you're echoing my own concerns. I've been around this industry long enough to know not to trust Mweb. Still, I'm prepared to go there if this product still looks good after world+dog's been using it for 2 or 3 months.
Of course, with the breaking news re Vox - that does give us a genuine second option. And historically one of their (Vox/Datapro) big selling points has always been a good contention ratio and a focus on overseas bandwidth.

Agreed... and the fact that if I am already an OpenWeb customer I don't have to do much to migrate to another plan.

Although in this case, I think I am going to stick where I am.
 
Guys, MWEB doesn't ask for the PaySlip anymore but they want the following:
Copy of ID doc
Telkom account (first page as proof of address)
Completed and signed form with initials on each page of the TOS

Both MWeb and Vox (because of their dumb lying adverts) are in my "No go" books. OTOH, I think that the IS deal might just be one to look at, Especially if you can sign up for a month get all of the ISO's etc that you need and then go back to normal. I would hazard a guess that IS will have a better contention ratio then MWeb and at least have some redundancy with their satellite links.

BS! They didnt ask me for anything but my Id Number.
 
will they allow multiple concurrent connections, and will they be using IS backbone, and not SAIX???
