Hi.

Been trying to use my adsl account at openweb for two days and having no luck. It worked fine before. Cannot vpn to my office. Their support is terrible. They don't return messages and are not available to talk to. This is my first month with them and I am terribly dissapointed. When using my old adsl account with another supplier it works fine. Any ideas who else I can use that is trustworthy and can provide a better service?

Sorry to hear about you misfortune, firstly i recommend you flip through this thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/622747-The-truth-about-Openweb

and then you can look at other ISPs besides Afrihost/Axxess as an alternative. I advise you to cancel your Openweb account as soon as you can before you pull all your hair out, they might tell you about their calendar month notice so you might be locked in till end of November or so. Been there trust me nothing will change with them all one can do is leave. All the best mate

Just move to Vox and be happy.

If you get uncapped though make sure to get an account that's faster than your line speed as the thresholds are low. They are cheap and good quality though.

submit cancellation asap and move to any other ISP besides Axxess/Afrihost.

Golden rule of thumb when it comes to SA ISP's. Don't use OpenWeb, you will most likely regret it. Look at alternative ISP's, Web Africa, Vox and Crystal Web are currently offering good prices and good quality. Do yourself a favour and ditch OpenWeb.

Not sure why people open up accounts with OpenWeb. The article, forum threads, complaints, ratings etc. should all paint a pretty clear picture.

MyBroadband openly endorses them on the front page with closed commentary.

I noticed that as well, until someone pointed out that they are paid for advertisements, apparently all "Partner Content" have locked comment and forum sections.

Here you go my kind sir

While you at it you can thank Mybroadband for spinelessly advertising these scum to the unaware public

I was with them, I just couldn't anymore and moved to CrystalWeb and I've loved it.

Smooth sign up process and excellent support. Good value and predictable speed.

You need to ask Openweb to reroll your account, they'll give you a new username and password. Ask for Leon to do it for you.

I'll warn you now though, this won't be the last time and it gets tedious.

It gets very tedious.

Literally any other ISP would provide a better service. Why are you with Openweb? Most folks, including me, recommend Crystal Web and Vox.

Only very recently did they start locking other partner content, to bring it up to parity with Openweb's exclusive censorship. That's how much they are protected.

So I'm not the only one who noticed that then...

Nope, I noticed it too, then got moaned at in the comment section because some dimwit complained to me that all partner content is locked. Well, yeah, it is now. What sickens me a little is that OpenWeb got preferential treatment.

Thanks MyBroadband for being such A$$H0l3ss. People trust you to be impartial.

To those who replied, thanks so very much. I will look at the other ISP's suggested as soon as I have spoken to my lawyer on getting the money back that I paid.

What other forum would you suggest I join apart from mybroadband?

I joined openweb due to recommendations on mybroadband. I work from home and require a stable uncapped unshaped connection. So I signed up for their premium service whihc a couple of people raved about. It worked very well during testing and the first two weeks of this month.

So I signed up with vox and bought a package to test them out. Never got the email with the details so I called the center. They told me sorry, it is weekend, we cannot help you. New accounts can only be setup during the week. Terrible. ???????

Axxess
The account I have there eventually started working after a support call just to die again 12 hours later due to an authentication issue. It has been 12 hours since this issue started and no resolution.

Openweb
Tested this account this morning and it seems to be working again. Holding thumbs I may get a days work in today.

I spend three times as much money as normal per month just to be connected. Would really just love to have a stable uncapped unshaped account that peers locally in cape town. Any ideas?

Stable?

Not Openweb...
