I have used the After Hours Uncapped ADSL for a few months.Been very happy. Now I am leaving to live abroad. I asked to cancel my account on about the 10 Jan 2012. Now they want to charge me until the end of February.( Because it say a month in the sign on.) But, 22 days before as opposed to 30 days, whats the big deal, can't they be flexible and just cancel the account end of January 2012. No ways, its takes 5 minutes to sign up and a FULL 30 days to sign off.. the admin must me huge!

Next everytime i try to reply to the latest email from them, they just redirect it to you.
Then when you phone, they tell you that the cancellations department can only email

This is just one greedy little man in here somewhere, wants another month of bucks.

Cheers

1 month notice to cancel is standard everywhere. Stop being a dick.

It IS pretty standard,+1 to anti-dickiness

I am aware of the 1 month standard, but why can't they be reasonable. A few days here or there.

How long have you known you're moving? 1) 22 days,2) 30days or more

I agree with you 110% -- It is complete BS for them not to be lenient in such cases. In most countries outside of Africa, the customer always gets the benefit of the doubt, but in SA, the consumer is made to be cheated in any way possible.

You were warned when you signed up and agreed to it in a contract , it seriously messes up with their banking.

Suspect since Openweb basically resells these accounts they have to follow the terms of which ever company supplies the account to them.

The one calling the other a dick is obviously very happy with the South African way of doing business

downgrade now to their lowest package for feb. Then on the 31st you give them notice for feb.

You agreed to their terms. If you canceled on the 2nd/3rd I'd say fine, but to cancel a third into the month?

If you had a contract with someone would you allow them to cancel on you whenever it suites them?

the CPA clearly states 22 business days.

Business days do not include saturdays & sundays.

So effectively it's still a month's notice...

Then, essentially, he would've been able to cancel by the third of this month.

Also, it says 20, not 22.

Edit: Woops, counted upside down :p

Nope. 9 days of this month are weekend, 22 are business.

According to the CPA, you would've been expected to cancel by the third.

I was originally under the impression that it was 20 days, regardless of business or weekend. Venomous corrected me on that.

Sorry, but you were in the wrong :(

Well, so if its 30 days notice then its being cancelled on 10 Feb and you'll pay for the 10 days in Feb

Doesn't work like that, unfortunately. After all, if it did, would he be paying for ten business days, or ten days regardless? Would that not mean that online/automated services be exempt from the CPA' "business" days requirement for cancellations?

He's on a month-to-month contract, ergo, cancellation occurs at the end of the month as long as 20 business days' notice has been given prior to the month's end.

It's a shyte way of working it but whatever.

I got off early on my month-to-month jobbie with OpenWeb thanks in large to the fact that my previous account was cancelled (without my knowledge or permission) at the end of November. I figured that if they can randomly cancel an account without permission, then they should have no problem cancelling an account a second time.

Definitely don't miss OpenWeb after that.
