Hi guys

Time to rant and 'pak my tassies uit'. I've moved over to openweb GOLD as everybody tells me it's soooo wonderful. Well, 6 meg gold account is wonderful afterhours (Between 7PM-7AM), but unusable during the day.

Then, to add insult to injury the service levels are shyte. I phone yesterday afternoon aroun 4PM for assistance to try and get to the bottom of this. Was told I would get a phone call back, and that did not happen. Phoned this morning, and a guy called 'Dan' called me back around 9AM. I explained to him the situation, and he was going todo tests and phone me back. At 2:30 today, no callback. I phoned him again, and he said that he is doing 'routing' changes and unplug my router for 15 minutes. Guess what, even worse connection. Trying to download a 1 meg file takes 11 minutes! Now awaiting for his call back.

At R900 a month, I rather go back to afrihost and get their 10meg uncapped account that sucks JUST as bad as the openweb gold one during the day, but pay half the price.

Honestly, I don't see ANY value in their gold package!

Have you contacted mrBEEP on this forum? He normally sorts issues out very quickly.

Sir. I'm on Gold 4Mbs.

I currently (did a test a second ago) clock at 8.7Mbs down and 0.76Mbs up.

The issue is with your line/account. Contact MrBeep about this.

I have the 6Mbps Afrihost business account. Unshaped 24/7. Works as described.

iJasper. Nothing wrong with my line. Must be account, as I said, from 7PM it opens up, with no problems. There must be shaping and throttling happening somewhere.

Contact MrBeep. He should be able to sort you out. I get more than 150% my account speed at any given time

I don't have an Opnweb account and I do have a capped back-up Afrihost account.

The capped accounts are not shaped. Try the free 1GB offer or try theTelkom guest account to do speedtest.

If your speeds are still farked with other ISP details, then something else is wrong with your line.
Post a tracert. That might show congestion during those hours?

Kindly PM me with your ADSL username so that I can investigate.

I had great speeds on Openweb today. Torrents running slower, but I can understand its peak time now. Normal browsing streaming etc is fantastic!

Could very well be a line fault... I had the exact opposite problem - after hours slow, during work hours full speed. this happened on both Mweb and Telkom guest account.

Turns out I was connected to the wrong DSLAM

I have the exact same problem but they said it's because I download too much but instead of shaping my downloads during the day they just shape everything, can barely open a webpage.

This is suprising - apart from a few minor billing issues ive had nothing but good service from Openweb. Keoma is often very quick on the ball to switch me to different backbones when i have problems. Give him a shout im sure hell sort it out quickly

I have the same problem. They basically slow down my browsing speeds completely, but my download speeds are always good, even during the day sometimes. I think that's fair, since I am paying for a normal 1meg account, not a gold or silver.

I'm on a 4mb silver account and I really don't care about downloading during the day but when I can't even browse it's pretty stupid.

so OP is on the gold unshaped? they are 2 different products. if you on normal gold then you will be spanked during office hours. with unshapped you supposed to be flying all the time apparently.

My trial account was gold unshaped. Was definitely not unshaped.

I've had a similar problem. From the get-go I was throttled and shaped on my 2MB Gold account. Every time I checked my connection speed it would be something else - anything from 1960 down to 1320 and it would change all the time. Never had this problem with either MWEB or TI. This only stopped after I complained several times to support. My gold account worked fine initially until mid March when my speeds during business hours dropped to single digits. I was then given another account which worked perfectly during the day - this lasted for a week and then I was back on my original account. Everything was fine until beginning of April when I noticed that I was still on the same download when I got home after 5 pm. This was a dead giveaway that Openweb has resumed shaping my account until it was completely useless during the day. After escalating the issue I was given a different account which was so-so until last week when that account also died during the day. Supposedly my account was reset on Friday past, but I had no internet the whole weekend. I even had a Telkom techie to check my adsl line as I thought that the problem was on their side. He confirmed that the problem was with Openweb as I could access Telkom's page with a Telkom guest account. Since Openweb has no support after hours or on a weekend I've had to wait until monday morning before something was done about my account. So far, I've had zero apology from Openweb - they are quite content to take the money I'm paying for a Gold account and during the day give my bandwidth to their business accounts. And it's not as if I downloaded 24/7 either in April as I had a big dispute with Telkom and didn't use my internet for a full week. Be warned: even paying extra for a gold account does not mean that you will get any decent performance during the day.

Way to revive a dying thread..

tl;dr, go ask for help in the official OW thread

This all sounds very familiar, I was with afrihost and moved to openweb and I too was disappointed. After half a month cancelled my openweb account and moved back to afrihost.

I was also gold 2mb uncapped, I do a lot of work from home so was not willing to go through this cr@p. I'd hate to see the response anything less than gold are getting.

After seeing the other thread, of supplying new accounts to affected users, shows me someone is doing something wrong. And a positive of afrihost is their support structures.
