Hey Friends,

I need your opinion, suggestions, comments on a product we are looking at.

Would a 10GB - 192k speed - R329 account via VPN work for you?

It will act just like your normal ADSL account, but it would be at 192k speeds, through a VPN which you will "dial-in" to.

P2P will be allowed at burstable speeds.
You will get an internal IP eg. 10.1.1.5
Eventually it will change to an external (public ip) as the product popularity increases.

Hello MrBEEP,

It sounds good but, after all, it all boils down to how the account will perform.

It might be a good idea to give out some test accounts then base yourself on the comments?

I third that. :D As a current 10gig Openweb user, I was very sad to to see it go to R500. Was wondering what I would go for next month.

This seems to be an option as I do need my 10gigs. I don't use p2p alot; mainly browsing and downloading through browser and by ftp.

So, MrBeeb, how will this suit my needs?

I prefer a VPN connection above some weird proxy settings...

Think it should work - especially for the home ADSL users like myself
 
Will you still need a base account which will allow local usage? If yes then your R329 + R200(can't remember exact figure) works out to more than a straight 10Gb standard account.
 
IF base account needed:

GamCo offers 30Gb local accounts. If we can VPN into your network (locally) on the lowest package available @ Gam, the cost will still be more than a current 10Gb package @ SAOL. (175 + 349 = 524 ; more than 499)

And then, Saol currently provides 1024 MBps connections
 
The R329 includes the base account :)
 
a vpn does that mean i can just use your service for gaming?

i mean i need 10 gigs for gaming
but if you use the IS serivce i will not do it

i dont mind 192 but i do mind slow 192 with high pings onlocal gaming servers

maybe you pm me about your product and let me know

OK, I am not technically aware, so a lot of what you say does not make real sense to me.

So, would I compare this to any 10 gig cap eg WebAfrica or SAOL? i.e. would it perform like any other account, and as has been asked what happens when I reach my 10 gigs?

I enjoy internet radio, surfing the web and need to be able to use Skype. Also if I can I would like to be able to use BearShare for downloads. Would this work for me?

What do you mean when you say "dail in"?

I am happy for you to PM me if these are all obvious answers that everyone else would know?

well i spoke to someone now possibly mrbeep

he told me that you get 10 gigs for 349 no other cost
but it is an IS based account and if your gonna gaming on sgs servers its not recommended

is there any one out there who plays bf 2 with saix who has stable decent pings?

It sounds great MrBeep. I should be signing up for one of your accounts within the next half an hour or so (Telkom finally bloody installed my line). If this package comes through I'll grab one when they're available. (I'm always happy to beta test for you though ;) )
 
I was only able to test the ADSL account and not the VPN(so no international), results :

(a bit surprising)

Please ntoe that I have a 192k line. SO the speeds were pretty much around 19/20kB/sec which is constant and good.
I would like to know how the VPN account will work out.
Since you need the VPN to get international, then will the 10GB cap only apply when using the VPN account? i.e. will there be a separation of the 10GB and 20GB, thereby (almost) separating the international from local?

Thank you SO much for the detailed feedback you have provided. I really appreciate it.

Yes, International will only work with the VPN.

Monthly, you get a total of 20GB's local. Ontop of that, you dial into the 10GB International VPN. Which means, international usage is ONLY deducted whilst you are dialed into the VPN, which in a way, is seperating local from international.

I will sort out your VPN account, and email you ASAP.
