I am wondering if someone from Open Web that reads these forums can maybe clarify a few things about the special openweb uncapped express accounts (the R999) ones.
I signed up for one today, got the login details a few hours later, and I am currently using this account to post here.
My question however is that on the sign-up page, they state that there is a threshold limit of 20gb, then the account will be limited to 128k for the rest of the month. When I go the the IS usage page and login with this account, it shows that for the month of February 2008, there is already a total of 15102.81 Megabytes received. Is this account shared with other users, and if it is, how will openweb differentiate between traffic from me, and traffic from other users?

I am pretty sure they double sell the accounts - they forced me to drop a second concurrent connection and moments later I saw another connection on the IS user stats page - I'm going to contact IS tomorrow about this.

Yes, I can actually see on the IS usage page that there is 2 sessions for this account currently connected, mine and obviously someone else.
Since I am paying for this account, is there any way to change the password for the account?
I do not want to be held responsible for someone else's traffic, and I do not want my speed downgraded to 128k after only a few days usage, through no fault of my own.

I am sure we have the same account!

Newopenweb - I am sure we have the same account! I will pm the username to you - please reply and tell me if we have the same account details...

Why did you resell my account?

Just as i thought! The account has been resold!! Thanks Newopenweb for confirming it!

I just send an e-mail to Openweb support as well asking them to resolve this issue.
What is really bad about this if true (overselling, and not just an honest mistake on their part, since we have not received any feedback from them yet) is that they charge R999 for a 512k account, sell this same account to several people, put an effective 20gb data limit on the account, and then limit the speed to 128k for the rest of the month when the 20gb, shared by several people, is reached. That surely cannot be right.

I just thought of something else. To see if these accounts are really being sold several times, maybe some forum readers with openweb uncapped accounts can log into the IS usage page and checked how many sessions are logged in? It assume it should be one session per account?

Get hold of Mrbeep.

seems mrBig still bit busy from month end proceedings....

Hxx/NewOpenWeb, what does IS say about this ?

As far as ODS's explination went when i asked them on the 2 concurrent connections, that one is for current one and other one is for after you crashed in some manner be it the router that hang or whatever to reconnect without having them to reset the whole thing, but i once tested an IS account which was suppose to be 2 connections only, i had a total of 7 rassppoe's connected to it, makes one wonder.

I sent an e-mail to their support, but since it was already after 5 pm, I will probably only get a reply from them tomorrow. Same for the mail sent to Openweb. It will be interesting to hear what they say about this though.

well, you don't get such a thing as uncapped - in short what they do is give you x amount of cap and hope you don't use it all or over use which then (the cap pool) is shared by all others that has the 'uncapped'.

as already confirmed by few isps' if you don't use all of your cap the rest of the money paid for it goes to those who over use it or everything of it to cover all costs - the light users carry the heavy users.

Hey Friends

We do not oversell, or double sell accounts. It is against the contract we have with IS, and would result in suspension of our reseller rights.

I have received a mail from user 'NewOpenWeb', and am investigating this problem.

However, it is important to note that ADSL in general is a shared service. First Tier ISP's sell x amount of accounts running over a y sized pipe. As a reseller though, we do not have the ability to oversell, as we pay per account.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Well I just checked the IS usage page again and the total megabytes sent and received is now at 18066.51 megabytes. I signed up today for this account, got the login details at 1.44pm, setup my adsl router and started using the account at 5pm, when I got of from work. It is now only the 4th of February, and there is only 2gb of the "cap" left, of which I have used a total of 51.45 megabytes. Thats R999 for 50 mb of data. The rest of the month I will really have an 128k account.
Looking at the usage history of this account shows that an average of 5gb is used everyday since the start of the month. This means that I might as well go sign up for some 128k ISDN dial up account, because I will get the same speed and data, for 10x less cost.

i personally think that IS's usage is odd. i somehow downloaded 300mb+ on my IS while being connected to my saix local only account. o well, not sure how exactly i cant trace or see wtf is going on with that :/

what you can do is get from them the mac address that connected to the account if its different from your router well obviously there is something going on.\

-pm me the username i can do with an uncapped ;)

Well the IS page does not show the MAC address of the pc or router that is connected, but it does show 2 different sessions id's, and 2 different session IP addresses, one of which is currently assigned to my router, and the other I guess to Hxx. The one ESR shows Bronberg 3, the other Sidwel 3.

take screen shots of both the usages page and your and Hxx's ips - from there not sure what you can do, but alteast you have some evidence if the powers that be is going to 'fix' it later one.

actually be quiet interesting if you can photobucket it for us.

/peaks at my IS usage page....
