The Vodacom network is usually always great for me, except for the shaping on video streaming sites, as per usual.

Been having similar issues to the users above for the past week or so. I will email you with my account details referencing this post.

In the interest of everyone's benefit in assiting in the troubleshoot of this issue here is some background:

I am on a 10meg ADSL line in Cape Town.

I have not seen my gold uncapped 4mbit exceed 1mbit yet on local speedtests. Speedtest.net detects my location on Johannesburg and latency to locations in cape town is in the 100ms+ region (like its all going via Johannesburg). Does being in Cape Town put me at a disadvantage vs an IS based solution?

International latency to the uk seems to be about 280ms, which is decent. its about the same as I got on the uncapped standard account.

I have, on regular occasions, times when international and/or local browsing would drop to sub 384k speeds or no connection at all.

During any time, I am able to connect via a Capped webafrica or afrihost account and have 5mb+ local speeds on speedtest.net. From the old uncapped standard (IS solutions) I would usually get between 2.5-3Mbit. Based on what the Gold product offers, I would expect a slight improvement, or at minimum similar speeds.

Torrents speeds seem pretty much to be about 60-70% of the HTTP speeds in most cases. Great when you get 3Mbit, but not good when you are getting 0.7Mbit (right now at 10pm)

Hope this information, with the same information from other users helps you provide the quality service users would like and I am sure, you would like to offer. Thanks for the willingness to engage your clients in a public forum like this.

Yes, streams perfectly here too. I monitored it and it's using the local Youtube cache in SA.

A lot of time, when videos are not cached locally on Youtube's SA mirrors then things then I have to switch videos to 240p and sometimes they still need to buffer.

That's the problem with this account - I keep having to try things to get it to work, my whole reason for cancelling. I'm not at home again until tomorrow evening, which means its down again for a few days. I'm also 100% sure the problem has nothing to do with Telkom.

I'll see if I can get 5min free tonight to try and log on again (getting home VERY late) - else I'm going to have to buy prepaid bundles as my Afrihost 1GB is up.

Hopefully in a couple of months time all these issues will be ironed out, for now it doesn't really matter to me... I'm just leaving everything running and they can download when the connection works... the month is almost over anyway.

Anyone else experiencing severely bad packet loss on their Vodacom uncapped accounts?

Mr.Beep told me via email last night that Vodacom is busy upgrading their network, today, actually it started last night already, so thats the reason for the packet loss. I just tested it in Black Ops, getting major packet loss, high latency etc. So I guess we just have to be patient for now.

xrapidx, reset your router to factory default, maybe that will solve some of your problems. I managed to solve my issues by doing that. Al my other accounts worked fine, but as soon as I log in with the Gold Uncapped details it will not connect to the net.
 
4 Meg Gold running like a dream today, been gaming gaming BC2 almost the entire day. XD

MrBeep if you read this, could us OCD geeks get an opt-in for notifications via email or something? I'm sure it would save you a lot of support time and would also keep us up to date.
 
Sent a mail to Keoma. Having some lag today on the Neology backbone and ATM I can't even load google. Most websites won't load even half way. Really annoying :(

No problem. He should actually compensate us with an IS based account till Vodacom finish their upgrades :D - Anyhow, not to push it, I'll swop over to my 1GB free afrihost for now.

The fault is on your DSLAM port. I have had it reset for you.

Sent a mail to Keoma. Having some lag today on the Neology backbone and ATM I can't even load google. Most websites won't load even half way. Really annoying :(

I'm still running at my full line speed. Gold is the best thing since MYADSL!
 
Internet overall was better today, but now once again Google won't load and most pages only load partially. Something must be wrong with the ports or at least there is with mine.

EDIT: The irony. Just after I post this Google and other pages start working again.
