Openweb Uncapped Feedback

How does one check bandwidth usage? I tried using my username/password but it just shows a blank form- headers etc but no values.

Speeds seem fine on my 384k Gold. Haven't tried any gaming yet- any feedback from others on that??

I'm on 384k, when I switch to my telkom account, everything is great! The last time I recall having such frequent page timeouts and downloads bombing out was on dial-up. And I'm not trying to be sarcastic. At time's a refresh is needed, just to get the CSS to be applied to a page. The product need's tweaking and I hope the feedback here helps in a positive light, we can't go on being guinea pigs though!

Here is a question for you: The standard uncapped it IS, priced R219. The gold option is R99 extra totalling R318. Why not simply getting Mweb uncapped and pay R219 for a better service...

When Open Web launched their uncapped service they said in that launch article they are reselling Mweb bandwidth...why are we now on IS network? Is the R99 so that we can access the Mweb network? Somewhere something is not so lekker...

Not the same as per the email that I got from the CEO this morning...

first he wrote:

"From 1 June, we will be on the Mweb Gold network, yes.

Currently, we are selling bandwidth on our own network."

and then:

Own Network = Gold
Standard Uncapped - Internet Solutions

This is not what that original article said...and IS announced their uncapped offerings after this announcement of Openweb.

This is starting to look like a pulling of a fast one...

I was under the same impression, actually. Haven't really thought about it until you mentioned.

Many people were under than impression including myself as their pricing was exactly the same, i just thought they were reselling mweb accounts. Keoma said that was the initial plan but Mweb still wanted customer to sign contracts for a certain period i think *please correct me if im wrong* hence the jump to IS. God this IS based account is useless though, time outs/slow speeds int and local.
bleh...

I went to Openweb because I like supporting smaller players and because they are reselling Mweb which is a superior network at the moment. I think I am going to cancel and just sign up with MWeb directly then, no point paying a R100 extra for something that can potentially be good in a months time...

My thoughts exactly, i used Mweb trial account and was very happy with it. I was on the verge of signing up but with 10mbit around the corner im gonna wait it out and see what telkom brings to the table. I did however get a 4mbit uncapped from openweb this morning as i need to have uncapped back in my life :P but alas the speeds overall have been extremely poor to say the least. Hope it picks up after hours.

My account had been moved due to poor performance from IS in the first half of last month. On speedtest it shows up as:

ISP: Neology IPClub DSL User

Performance over all since then was pretty good. Since the beginning of this month it has been dismal and just as bad as it was when it was on IS. It's starting to get rather confusing. Why the need for Gold accounts when the standard ones initially offered should be sorted out. Look at MWeb's latest offering for DSTV on IP (non techie here, so wording may be incorrect), they recommend 512K for it, if they cannot deliver at that speed you going to get quiet a few irate customers and a backlash. So they will have to ensure they meet the criteria they advise. My point being on 384, 512 or 4mb. They should compare performance wise with other industry players priced in that bracket. Openweb still have to deliver, until then we are guinea pigs on a solution that is not tried or tested before launch. Afrihost burnt themselves this way to!

Agreed! Although i am a big Openweb supported as they have released alot of innovative stuff and Mr Beep does keep us well informed but coughing up an extra R100 *for Gold* on a service that should be on par with Mwebs is quite bothersome.

+1 On Mr Beep, very professional. One of the reasons I moved from Afrihost.

+1

I love their support and their level of interaction. As I said before, it'll take a lot to get me to move from OpenWeb.

I'm happy to say I'm up and running again :) Seems IPC issue was fixed.

Another +1 for Mrbeep and Openweb. Have been with them for a very very long time, and they offer SUPERB service!

All networks will have problems, it is how you handle it when the mango hits the fan.

Mrbeep has been helpfull and always has a solution! I have had some inside info from a friend that works at Openweb regarding the new network from 1 June. Very exciting!

Things have improved since 2:30 (ish). I am happy with the performance I'm getting at the moment, will see how it goes over night.

Mr Beep appreciates the feedback and does in fact keep you in the loop, which is "numero uno" for me. If this is his approach to troubleshooting and customer relationships, I plan to be with Openweb for a long time to come.

Still waiting to see how the product is like afterhours before i mail.
Just want to know what your general experiences are with the 4mbit product, iv heard it pretty much varies from day to day during office hours but afterhour speeds are quite decent

Yeah I agree +1 to Mr. Beep. support and response is excellent. But at the end of the day we are at the mercy of I.S. Over all the speed for me has been a huge issue, Mr Beep assists me where he can, but I'd have to say we are paying for a Service that we just aren't getting! 4Mbps uncapped is supposed to be 4Mbps uncapped. If they want to throttle Torrents then fine, i dont use it anyway. But it is absolute BS not even being able to watch You tube during the day , or waiting for it to buffer. I DL through RS and HF which is HTTP traffic as far as I know, unless I am to be corrected, and even that runs at between 0Kbps and 30kbps, sometimes even after 12 at night. As far as I'm concerned IS shouldn't offer something they can't support. At least Openweb have tried to assist us where they can. Still have had to pay for full months subscription for bad service from IS.

my current speed test on my uncapped IS account

to london

to cape town

and now with my openweb turbo account

to london

and to cape town

now cant someone sort out somewhere? i agree with shaping and throtteling torrents, by all means. i block that totally from 6 - 8pm on my network but cant http get better?
