Still very happy with VB today - actually it's running even better than yesterday.

Hmm, I just had to say VB is working well...I jinxed it, it's now dead as a doornail.

It's back up, lasted only about 5 or minutes.

Hey guys, Ive been with OpenWeb for a number of months now and I am generally ok with the IS account that Im on, the only problem is that from 8AM-7PM its completely dead and unusable but from 7PM-8AM its 100% on everything. Last time I checked there was no alternative but its been a while since then so I thought Id try my luck... I mainly use P2P, loads of Steam and general gaming, the rest of the users on my network use a ton of YouTube and Facebook all day long... Since they are on holiday now the YT during the day is eating a lot into my capped accounts...

Does anyone know a backbone that might be better suited to this kind of traffic consumption as opposed to IS or is it my best bet? The majority of bandwidth on my network at any point in time is always P2P...

Thanks

I am on the VB backbone. While almost everything is working well, youtube and video streaming in general does simply not work. It buffers constantly. Not sure about p2p as I don't use torrents.

I find the video play perfectly provided my nntp is not cruising full speed :D VB backbone is the business

IS Dead again today.. http times out, ping tests time out..

But if i go over to Afrihost, magic it all works

I have to pause my downloads and even then video won't stream well, still buffers. I am on 4m.
Maybe this has something to do with it: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1382090335.png

Just does not look/feel right to me compared to what Axxess is giving me http://www.speedtest.net/result/1382096886.png

Yeah something is definitely wrong on VB... BIG TIME. I'm feeling the same effects. MrBeep gave me a IS based account yesterday.. well it runs like a BOSS: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1382176448.png

I'm streaming Youtube videos in HD at this very moment without any difficult, downloads run full speed all the way. Although, I can't help but think that it might also slow down at some stage, but it is performing MUCH better than my VB account at the moment, which saddens me, cause the VB backbone has been good to me for so long, has kick ass latencies in games, hate to swop it with this IS account, but I'll perhaps need to make the change if things don't get better in the next 48 hours on VB.

Has anybody had an OW Gold account that they have used for months and months without any hassles? Or is chop and change the norm?

Well my VB account gave me excellent performance from December 2010 till about 2 days ago, so that was about 8 months, and it's been a while since I requested a new account.

I've now been using OpenWeb since January and although I have changed backbones a few times, I'm still happy. I've been on the VB backbone for 99% of the time, it just suits my needs best. I also see since the beginning of the month that the shaping on VB has been a lot more refined than it used to be. I used to get full speed on NNTP, but my http would suffer, but now it looks like it was smoothed out nicely - my NNTP still running between 300-350KB/s which is perfectly acceptable and my streaming and http work great. I also no longer try to download the entire internet :D

Yeah I think there is some kind of rolling threshold on IS as it always starts fab and then dies when you start pulling Gs... VB is always a no go on P2P so its my only option tho but I dont know much about Altech

You lucky, Im on IS and during the day any traffic is dead, have to use another account all together to get somewhere

What usenet server do u use?

Really speeding with the IS backbone, almost reaching 10kb/s with P2P :P

I should add that for most of last night, it was no different.
