There's is currently a Seacom issue. Let us know what you get later today. Should be fixed by then.

Have yo uupgraded your line to 1mb/s?

From what I hear on mweb forum it sounds like the Seacom issue has already been fixed.

Ooh, that should explain the issues I'm having as well. Getting high latency and poor download speeds on both OpenWeb and Mweb.

Also, my upgrade to Gold is being processed. :D

I give up, on VB and IS my NNTP speeds remain the same (throttled at 110-120kb/s), so there is no advantage for me at this stage to swop over from IS to VB again, on IS I can at least stream without any problems, where on VB it just won't start whatsoever. Anyone on Altech or BCS care to share what speeds you're getting with NNTP during the day ? I just can't believe that like killadoob, I also used to get 400kb/s + 24/7 on VB about 8 months untill it went belly up. I highly doubt it's because of my exchange, perhaps there are too many subscribers on GOLD these days to be able to sustain full line speed all day long.

Anyhow, guess I'll have to be happy with 1mb speeds for the time being on NNTP downloads.

On Altech NNTP is 0kb/s during the day.

I joined Gold Uncapped, when VB first came onto the scene. Anytime and anyday, i had full linespeed for anything. 1080p streaming wasn't an issue. Last week i said goodbye to VB forever. Could not get it to work properly. Now i'm on IS. I still only see half line speed at night, sometimes my downloads timeout, and i restart in the morning. Gaming is good over the weekends, and streaming is maxed out at 480p. I'm not sure why these problems are here, but also at a point where i'm considering going back to capped.

Good to know that I'm not the only one on which VB flaked out on. I also remember being able to stream 1080p without a problem on VB. For me streaming on IS is really top notch, can also stream 720p/1080p without too many hiccups during the day, gaming wise latencies are good, downloads are the only thing that I'm a bit unhappy with at the moment, but I guess the positives outweigh the negatives at this stage.

Dreading the end of the month as ADSL will be a thing of the past.

ADSL is a stuff up in Durban

MrBEEP has switched me from VB to IS because of my performance issues on nntp, I haven't managed over 250KB/s since the beginning of the month - it'll be interesting to see the differences tonight.

You have issue with 250kb/s on a shaped account?

Wow.

I switched to VB yesterday and this is what I found:
NNTP runs at full speed 380 - 410kb/s
HTTP runs at 30kb/s
Streaming constantly buffers
Skype has no problems
Gaming - well lantencies are horrible

Maybe I should have stayed on IS. NNTP and gaming is what I do most and it seems NNTP is the only good thing on VB.

Hey guys can proudly say i am a Openweb client from yesterday. Thamx to Keoma who went the extra mile and sorting my account out after hours. And also the call centre guy Dane. Thanx a mil guys>

Welcome! Now leave my bandwidth alone :D

something interesting guys.

I ran a speedtest and i was getting 0.5 meg of my 4 meg line. Load up my nntp and it was flying at 4 meg. Load up a http download flying at 4 meg. Shut it down run speed test 0.5 meg.

Just a quick question from my side...

About 2 weeks ago I had some problems with my line where it desync, reconnect and desync again but at random speeds. They rectified it, and after they fixed it, my router did sync on 10mb again, and I was happy. BUT while I was on the phone with them, the consultant did mess about with my sync rate and I was down to 384k at one stage and I told her she better put me back on 10mb again, and she promised she would.

Now my question is this, is it possible that my line runs slower now for some reason, because of a tweak they did accidently did on their side while testing/fixing my line causing me to be stuck on 1mb/2mb perhaps, even while I'm sync'ing at 10mb? Is that even possible ?

If it is possible, then I'll need to give them a call again, because I'm not a happy camper at the moment. Had someone else test out my account and on their side it's flying at 420kb/s, but on my end I can't even manage to break 200kb/s. Last night between 20:15 and 21:00 it did run full speed but once 9pm struck, it went down the toilet again.

I'm really confused, any ideas from your side ?

PS: When streaming youtube videos it goes at like 540kb/s in a matter of seconds and the video is buffered no problem O_o

Try testing your nntp downloads on a capped a/c to see how your line performs
What do your router stats say(snr, line att)?
I run all my nntp downloads on ssl(port 80) and get far better speeds than if i were running on std ports

I recently upgraded to 1meg Gold (IS Backbone), but I haven't seen speeds anywhere close to 90kb/ps, infact my download speeds are generally 26-38kb/ps. I was getting that back on 384k Gold. In general this account feels more like a standard account than a Gold one (Comparing my experience with 384k Gold).

Also, this isn't my experoence after one day, it's after a week. I have also reset my ports and router etc.

What is the norm for 1Meg Gold, is this out of the ordinary or normal?

I can't comment on whether this is the norm, but I share this experience with you.
