Direct download is jumping around between 60-70 on my 1mbs. Anyone know whats going on?

Its also jumping down to 30kbs every now and then.
 
Definitely something going on at the moment, I'm on the After hours unshaped uncapped, and my speeds are jumping between 300kb/sec - 600kb/sec (on a 6mb line).
 
Hi Friends,

There are currently 32 Telkom faults open across the country causing issues for some folks.

The networks themselves are running perfectly.

Many times, a router reboot might help. Please switch off your router for a minimum of 30 minutes, then back on.

I ran a speedtest and i was getting 0.5 meg of my 4 meg line. Load up my nntp and it was flying at 4 meg. Load up a http download flying at 4 meg. Shut it down run speed test 0.5 meg.

Ja, but I been saying that for weeks now. Speedtest.net is not a reliable measure of one's line speed.

Have both of you checked to see that you in fact syncing at 1024 and not 512?
 
Hey All...

I am experiencing absolutely zero problems on my end. Everything is just working, and has been now all month.
I am in Cape Town and on 384 Gold uncapped on IS backbone.

And do you have a backup unshaped account to test on?

The only way to establish the bottleneck is through the process of elimination. So if you were getting full speed on an unshaped account than that would point to shaping/throttling on the after hours account.

I've often thought Openweb was to blame for poorly performing downloads of Filesonic. After logging and trying the same download on 3 different accounts I established that the poor performance was coming from Filesonic servers....

Are Steam updates not limited on the VB (Gold) backbone during the day? I'm stuck with Steam updating at 2-5KBps now :(
Everything else runs fine though.

I hardly think it was the account, seeing as Monday Night I was downloading from the same source, and got full speed all night.
 
My VB was running like a 384 account in my 4m gold since last Sunday, Mr Keoma swapped me to a IS one, since yesterday till now, it is same like a 384 account, while my Telkom capped account is running perfectly at 400K, i am tired of this swapping and repeating the same congestion, planning to cancel it from next month, will buy a afrihost capped one.
 
Hmm, my VB account is flying. Just getting the normal shaping between 12 and 5pm, with, strangely, higher pings between those times as well. Can't complain, though, this is much, much better than standard uncapped. :D
 
On 1mb Gold Plus.
Surfing, YouTube and downloads from gametrailers.com work fine.
utorrent is throttled/shaped which is fine considering it's office hours and most importantly I can still do what I lister above.
However my only issue is that I can't connect to STEAM.
Aren't the servers local? Or is it just the DL servers and not the authentication servers?
I wanna play a game. :(

On which backbone are you currently ? If you're not sure, do a speedtest at speedtest.net and you'll be able to see. On VB and IS I find Steam to login quite quickly. The authentication servers are located overseas, but we do have local content servers.
