Well, based on some advice from other forumites, I am considering moving our business 4mb account to the Openweb Gold Unshaped account.

As this is a business account, it is imperative that we receive optimum speeds available. I understand contention ratios etc, but I don't want to move accross and discover that it's not worth it.

For those of you on this option, are you happy and can you recommend it?

Signed up today for uncapped express+ afterhours 4mb , very nice bunch of guys ,signed on tonight and honestly i thought i'd be getting better speeds , 9:30pm ,and averaging between 60 - 100kb/s, and it drops alot. Perhaps its picks up later.

My feedback as promised:

384k Lite.
Signed up 1 August. Or maybe 2?
Anyway, according to IS stats I have done 2.2GB.

Downloaded quite some bit. Around 1/2 to 2/3 of the day is some amount of downloading.
NZB and torrents are decent, except or SLIGHTLY slower during the day.
Worst was around half of line speed.
At night though, everything goes at around 80-99% of linespeed.

Still happy.

it drops continuously,up down up down, i am using a Telkom ADSL 5100 , but have ordered a TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N Home Router , which should arrive next week. why do you think it could be dropping so drastically.

Im having the same issue. I was told it was the router. but ive never had the problem before. So will test it with a Netgear router tonight and see. I'll post feedback later this evening!

Also as per MOH the TRENDnet is not an ADSL Router. Netgear are pretty decent. Not crazy about D-Link though

yeah i just realised that now , so now i have to go out and buy a dsl router, will keep TRENDnet for home network , i have popcorn hour , ps3 etc ,so i can use it and make the house setup neater.

will quickly find out about the dsl router ,you say netgear is decent

thanks

Edit: i just saw that the TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2/2+ Modem Router is a combined router ,and it does have ADSL 2 , sweet!!

Yeah the Netgear's are great. Nice and easy to configure and user friendly. You can probably get a wireless Netgear DG834 for about a R1000 if you shop about. But that is a gestimate.

What backbone are you on ?

No problems on my side.. everything is flying :)

Not sure which I was being routed over at the time of the slow connection; didn't think to check.

Today's seeing slow'ish speeds again (sub 20kb/s down, average is around 14kb/s total), where I'm used to getting around 25kb/s+ on this account. That is, I was used to those kinds of speeds before the 3 week SEACOM outage...

Our connection simply hasn't performed as well as it did when we first got it since the various SEACOM issues occurred. :(
Hopefully things will change when we switch back to 4mbps though. If I can get anything 1.5mbps equivalent or higher as a constant when the connection is actually in use then I'll be happy.

I've also been happy with my connection for the last few days, and the problem with logging in has decreased.

Well played OW.

well done to OpenWeb,,great speeds on uncapped "Lite" I knew that IS/OW would sort the shaping issues out, couldn't be happier with the account

..hat's off to Keoma : )

Yup, still happy over here.

This connection really performs a lot better than I expected.

I will just have to wait and see when the first 10 day window on my account comes, if I overshot and ended up in top 20%.

I hope not, hehe, and even if I do, thats fine.

Is your account also shaped during the day?

Edit: I have noticed that after 5pm all traffic is unshaped, whilst being shaped during the day.

This is utter BS, why advertise a product as unshaped when it clearly isn't??

How much of a difference is there between the 4mb uncapped GOLD and the normal uncapped 4mb? What kind of hiccups have you guys experienced? Any experience with it in Starcraft II?

Torrents are very low priority for me, I will do 100-150GB +- p/m on other things though.

Horrible latency at the moment, last night it was even worse (1400ms)
