Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Got moved to a different backbone. Problems seem to be gone.
Thx for the assist Keoma

I have been on the 384 Gold Uncapped account for December. I must be honest that it is just not worth it for me compared to the normal Openweb 384 uncapped that I had in November. Both are way better than Mweb and Afrihost 384 Uncapped products that I used the months before.

I download mostly from file hosting services. The shaping during the day is very similar to the Normal 384k Openweb Uncapped. In fact, I have compared stats using Networx and I get almost exactly the same daily average on the Gold as I did on the Normal 384 Uncapped account. The daily average on Gold was better in the first week, but went down from there. I expected the opposite in December. During office hours the average download rate for week days seems to be less than 30mb / hour with average speeds of less than 8KB/s.

Gaming on the PS network is not good at all on this account. I get dropped from the server intermittently. I also have an Afrihost / gig unshaped account that works perfectly for the PS3 network so I am pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with my setup.

There is also no improvement with Youtube videos, but that is probably understandable on a 384 line.

Thanks MrBeep for the help last night. It solved my problems quite well.

Some notes on Gold Uncapped (384 in my case):
In practise, assuming no issues from the upstream providers or cable breaks, etc.
Youtube has always been 100% for me. On VB, IS and BCS and Neology.
Torrents and NS always max, except obviously with VB where torrents are shaped to ~6KBps on what seems to be a permanent basis.
Http has generally been 100%. Just some issues lately on VB but other people's have been fine.
Gaming has been fine. Just had some Steam connecting issues on VB (up to 20min to login), but it works fine on BCS now (within 30 seconds). Stonecold I know doesn't have any issues with Steam on VB.
Filehosting (RS, HF, MU, MS) has been running 35-40KBps for me on the occasions that I've used it (free account). No problems there for me.

The big difference between Gold and normal is that Gold is less crowded than the normal accounts, ie if the lines are maxed, you'll get better throughput than the normal users. Shaping, when done, and I've rarely experienced any shaping on Gold, is a lot less strict than that of the normal accounts.

Hi Etienne,

You must notice a difference between Gold and Standard.

Please email me: [email protected] so that I can see what is wrong.

Thanx for the quick response and action MrBeep - taking the time on the 24th December to sort something like this out speaks volumes in terms of your commitment to your customers!

Since the port reset my downloads have been running at full speed. The big test will be in office hours and I will evaluate next week and give feedback here.

Anyone experiencing major problems today?
I can't connect to steam, xfire, download torrents or do normal http downloads

I just tried ping test on local and thats fine, but when trying to do one internationally it can't even get past the first part of testing packet loss

On what backbone are you ? I'm with VB and everything is fine on my side. Xfire, Steam is working. I think I played some Black Ops with you last night as well :)

Not exactly sure what backbone this is: Neology IPClub DSL User allc
Got moved over there 2 days ago, but now I can't do anything :(

I sent Keoma a mail, but seeing as its Christmas I don't know if I will get a reply from him :_:

Tried running Ping test again. All I get is:

Packet Loss Test Error. Couldn't connect to the test server

Eish, if you're on Gold, let Keoma move you to IS or VB (although if you're a torrent fan, then IS will suit you better most likely). I also had a Neology based account back in the day, but its performance wasn't up to scratch either. Hope Keoma can sort this for you asap.

Hello

There is currently a major Telkom backbone fault causing issues on the Neology backbone.

Engineers are attending.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Ok. At least now I know what is going on. Hope it gets cleared up soon. Got Cod yesterday and can't even play it :(

Is there any way to track progress on the backbone? Not being able to use the internet since this morning is becoming quite annoying.

Nope, the only way is to check for the green bar at the top of www.openweb.co.za. My speeds have also gone down a bit this morning on VB, round about the time that you initially made your post. Seems like that Telkom backbone problem affected other backbones as well :wtf:

This ETA 3 hours has been going on for quite a bit longer than 3 hours -_-

AH FUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!

"Notice: Telkom is still working on the fault affecting the Neology backbone.

If you need access, please email [email protected] for a backup account.

ETA: Unknown"

damn you telkom!!!!
