Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Had a few hiccups, but MrBEEP has been looking into it... busy testing at the moment, running at 300+ for the last hour

Unfortunately the good speeds didn't last - I was doing fine for most of the morning and now my speeds are back at 50KB/s. I'm giving this one last attempt, and then I'm cancelling - its now been 15 odd days that I've paid R738 for a product that isn't performing as I'm expecting - or as it did when I signed up.

Can anyone tell me if this is good/bad?

Code:
ADSL Link	Downstream	Upstream
Connection Speed	4096 kbps	512 kbps
Line Attenuation	39.0 db	22.5 db
Noise Margin	10.4 db	12.0 db

EDIT: Just switched back to Afrihost Free 1GB and hitting line speed again. I'm actually now using the Afrihost account as the Openweb one is unbearable, even for browsing.

I am using an international news server on OW Gold, and it always runs at full speed. Right now its on 342KB/s

xrapid your line snr is under 12 for downstream you need 12 to sync probably, it could be a problem maybe, but u did say afrihost runs fine

Yip - Afrihist 1GB sits at 300+ - unfortunately its now depleted because of all the testing :(

I've officially paid R738 for a max of 100KB/s this month. I'll see how it goes, but it looks like I'll be cancelling, back to capped for me. MrBEEP is also out of idea.

I've just switched back to the VB network - and its just as bad.

All going strong here, Openweb hasn't missed a beat since I joined. I can't really fault it at all, even other people that have used it says it is quick.

Hi Mr Beep, were there any problems on the network today? (09/01/2010) No problem with downloads, they have been great all weekend, but today I get disconnected from games every 15min or so, almost like clockwork? Turning off all downloads doesnt help either... :(

Apart from the IS related packet loss thats going on at the moment, my Openweb afterhours account is still flying at over 9M/bs from 7pm to 7am. Cant complain about that :)

I'm hoping I've found the problem... whenever I run torrents, my connection speed dies, I cycled them on and off a few times, and each time the speed drops (as per graph bellow). This doesn't happen on Afrihost, I have emailed MrBEEP - but am happy if this speed can be maintained without the use of torrents

If anyone else is having speed problems - could you try disable torrents and see if it helps?

Dude you upload speed is WAY too high, SA lines cant handle that ,if you max upload your download will drop to zip (which is what you see in the graph) Limit your torrent uploads to like 10-15K, thats all you need! ^.^

Edit: uTorrent has upload limiter if the current one youre using doesnt

Edit2: also ensure that your connections per torrent are not set to anything higher than 50 (I use 30) and total connections round 100 with probably 2-3 concurrent downloads

Tried limiting them... made no difference to download speeds w.r.t. newsgroups... i'll leave it on however... the torrent is usually inactive.

I left torrents off last night - the downloads stayed at 400KB/s constantly, it looks like my problem was caused by torrents, I'm not sure if it has something to do with connection limits on the Openweb network - as it did the same on IS and VB - but did not do it when using Afrihost?

I'm just glad it seems back to normal, and my 2 weeks of issues are over... which make sense as I added this torrent around two weeks ago.

Dunno what it is... but within seconds of starting them my connection dies, including normal HTTP browsing.. .and the only reason it only started two weeks ago is because I don't really use torrents, and added one then.

like you i in the main don't use torrents. but also a week or two ago i set up torrenting on my mythtv box and maybe coincidentally, that is when i started noticing speed issues. i am currently not downloading any torrents but the torrent daemon is still active.
