Openweb Uncapped Feedback

So I am looking at getting the OpenWeb Afterhours Gold. Is it worth what it's advertised? is there anything i should be aware of that wasn't mentioned already (like 192kb/s during office hours).

what's WoW like from 4pm to 7pm? Would i be able to play? Also, if i will be downloading about 150gb/month would i expect to get a warning letter on the FUP?

12k latency on WoW atm. Just sent a mail asking for a port reset.

Been like that for me since the 30th, please let me know if you get yours fixed, I mailed Keoma last night and he said I must wait till tonight

Usually after a port reset my latency and download speeds are fixed. Will post when I get a reply

No reply yet :( Cant even see my latency anymore since I get dc right after I've logged in . . .

OpenWeb's support doesnt seem that great to be honest. As a potential customer willing to fork over R1k a month for internet services I havent received replies from MrBeep (PM), ceo[at]openweb, hurry[at]openweb or received the callback from them promised yesterday when I phoned in. It does not seem they are very keen for new business

Hes usually quite speedy with me, but I must admit I got 0 feedback before I was actually a client, learnt more from the forum than queries I sent through... I think there are problems atm hence why the delays

Hows the Gold these days ? quick look at the thread makes me think it's also bantha fodder...

Hi Qrox,

If you have still not had a reply, i'm afraid I did not get your email.

I have just finished my inbox.

Hey,

Used to be an OpenWebber way back in the beginning, but left after the service and performance got dodge, but it appears that things seem to be moving in the right direction again. Was hoping to get some of your views, and am looking for a comparable product to MWEB's 4Mb uncapped offering.

HAHAHAHAH! MWeb is a joke in comparison to OpenWeb Gold my friend, cant even compare!

This is directed to OpenWeb Gold customers who have experienced MWEB's offerings:

- What is shaping like on OpenWeb?
- What times of the day can P2P and file hosting sites like Megaupload be expected to perform well?
- How is the service in general?

I am becoming increasingly unhappy with MWEB and if things don't improve soon, I might make the switch.

I'm on IS backbone too (which I am happy with and don't wanna change off of) - just sent MrBeep an email as I'm getting max of 3KB/sec (on standard HTTP downloads from anywhere, didn't even try any other protocols else) on OW Gold so have asked for the "magical port reset" that has worked for me before. Fingers crossed support reacts quick and I get sorted out, on my other backup ISP a/c (IS too) in meanwhile.

Update: Port was reset, speeds seemed to be better, will test more when I get a chance.

I'm also curious.

I sent MWEB my cancellation yesterday so have this month as my last month.

Anyone care to list all the backbones and their various pros and cons?

So far I know of IS, Vodacom business, BCSnet, Neology and Altech.

IS:
seems to be more prone to disruption and niggles
fine on all protocols
latency sometimes slightly higher according to the gamers
VB
fine for all business protocols, and amazing for games from what I've heard (including Steam)
file-sharing, fine IMO. Torrents, poor to bad (since it's not a torrent-loving backbone)

Someone else might be able to comment on bcs and altech, I don't have much experience with those two.
