Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Hi Kilo,

BCS was very slow on torrents. was running @ about 4-5kB/s. On VB, the same torrent ran at 35kB/s. It's still running @ over 30kB/s

Can some people with past experience on the IS network please comment what they thought about it? also please give some details on the IS shaping.
I need reliable HTTP 24/7 but also make use of torrents after business hours, and it seems like the only gold network that supports torrents is IS?
in the past, there have been so many complaints about IS, that I am not sure what to expect from them.

also the people on the after hours 10mb, could you please give some feedback about the upload speed during business hours, and how your overall performance is during business hours?

Thanks alot.

Uncapped after hours has been superb, 7pm-7am weekdays and all weekend performs at max line speed regardless of protocol.... I've averaged over 300GB's in the last 6 months...

During office hours it stinks, good for light browsing and emailing and that's it...

Thanks for that.... how about other stuff, like http downloads and streaming etc... VB > BCS for this too or just torrents ?

I have noticed that TeamViewer is unusable on my OpenWeb BCS backbone. The lag is excruciating. Had to switch to Afrihost to use TeamViewer.
Anyone on the VB backbone using TeamViewer OK ?
Torrents I do not use, but TeamViewer is a must... will see how it goes this week, otherwise I may just request a change.

Thanks for the info.

Stil  for OpenWeb Gold at the moment.

The after hours uncapped runs on the IS backbone. during office hours I use an afrihost capped account (also IS) and am connected to the office for about 6-8 hours a day. The office runs on MWEB uncapped 4mb account. Use roughly 4gbs a day on teamviewer alone with the office uploading 2gb (MWEB) and the host, me at home 2gb downloaded.

I've tested connecting to open web at the office during office hours on the after hours account and afrihost capped at home and performance was excellent.

OpenWeb is absolutely fine for everything I am doing at the moment, except TeamViewer... on my OpenWeb account it is completely unusable.
As with you, on my Afrihost account it is perfectly functional.

I hope it is just a temporary glitch or backbone thing.

Will give it another few goes this week, if it still struggles, a change of backbone will be called for.

You on the IS backbone on openweb? Afaik Teamviewer works on the same principles as p2p which is heavily throttled on VB/altech backbones.

I understand that I am on the BCS backbone...

Aaaiyaaaiyaai... I hope not.

Maybe email MrBeep for clarity but that's my understanding of it. My experiences on IS have only been good!! I realize there some folk who dislike IS intensely but maybe try it for a week or 2 and see if it agrees with you...

Good advice... will give it a go. Ta.

Anyone using port 6112 on their VB account? Guild Wars uses port 6112 (from what I understand so do a lot of guys using torrents) and I do seem to have speed issues on that port. I don't use torrents so no need for me to move backbones as I mainly use FTP for files.

Warcraft 3 uses the same port as well Froot

Ok. I can play on the port, but the connection times between different map loads are rather insanely long - and the speed at which maps update are 10-15KBps compared to an IS account of 35-40KBps :(

I spike aswell during games, and people moan of lag if i host.

If i ping www.google.com or www.aardvark.co.za during these spikes, i see packet loss.
maybe after 500 pings i get 3% packet loss.. this is alot for online gaming.

Try a ping test, and while maps are loading see, if the response times are fluctuating..

Loading time is 10sec for me where it's 1-2sec for my friend on IS. I took a peep, my speed doesn't go above 2-3KBps.

Is there a problem with Openweb at the moment? I can barely browse to any site? Durban, Uncapped Gold.
