Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Yokay... will email him... it is like a rollercoaster today... up, down, up, stall, down, down, stall.

Could be congestion on the exchange. Maybe Mr.Beep can log a fault with Telkom.

Afrihost and even CyberSmart are 33+... OpenWeb is sub 8.

I have 4Meg Gold Uncapped and since around 8am it's been unusable.
Seems to happen most week days during business hours, but because I'm at home on sick leave I wanted to surf a bit and see some youtube videos inbetween all the chundering.
But no, I can't even do that.

Emailed Keoma and then later phoned support, but no Luck yet.
I know it will get fixed, but my own experience on the IS backbone has be ruined due to these constant speed problems.
I was moved from another back bone since the 7th July and have had issue ever since.
Moved to 4Meg gold at the start of June from 384k Gold and 4Meg worked like a champ before.

utorrent, STEAM, YouTube, and download a video review from Gametrailers.com are all averaging 13KB/s and peaking at 20KB/s.

Speed test are a wee bit better than the ones a ran earlier today, but they not even worth of 384k Gold let alone 4M Gold.

What I will say is that when IS does work, its great for uTorrent.

EDIT:
Axxess 1GB Shapped pre paid (R69): Much better, but still not what I usualy get. I there an a problem at IS?

Latency today on IS is also a lot higher than usual. Just got home so don't know since when it's been like that.
Local latency: 99 vs normally 27-33
International: 368 vs normally 270

International speedtest only gets 0.03 for download.
Hoping it goes better soon.

Does the speed increase on openweb gold IS accounts after hours? If so what times normally? Im getting about 30kb\s on nntp. Tested with another account and get about 300kb\s on that one. I moved to IS yesterday as VB was getting very slow speeds on Steam. Maybe I am just too impatient. :)

Latency seems to have come down and download speeds are better but only getting about 50kbs atm

EDIT: jumping between 17-40kbs atm. Spiking every now and then to 70-80kbs.

Why is it that the download speed can't just stay stable all the time? Makes me depressed when I download at less than half my full download speed and my upload speed surpasses my download speed.

Because ADSL is a shared, contended service subject to congestion and bottlenecks. The only way to ensure stability is to lease a dedicated line.

I can understand that it fluctuates a bit here and there but internet speed dropping by about 90% at times is just plain evil.

Was hoping to get good speed after hours but only getting about 100kb/s.

Altech's shaping on Downstorm seems to have disappeared today, I was getting 300K during office hours and 400 at the moment.]

You seem to be correct: http://www.speedtest.net/results.php?sh=3053dcf95ef2c7f83ebf0031c50a4ffa&ria=200985968

A week on Altech and it's A1OK.

[understatement] Can't say I'm missing MWeb's deep packet inspection and email interception at all. [/understatement]

Why is it that download services have been getting more and more throttled during the day? On my 384 I was able to download from megaupload, fileserve, etc at 38-42kbs during the day. Switch over to 1mbs and now I struggle to get above 25kbs. Getting 17kbs atm.

Is it that the 1mbs has terrible throtteling or did the throtteling recently become worse on these sites or what? If I download from other sites or downloads on Steam I can get full line speed.

Hey Qrox, I've been wondering that myself. It seems there is throttling during the day.
I'm on 384 and have always gotten great fullspeed (around 40 KB/s) downloads during the day with HTTP. This past week I've noticed I max out at around half speed (say 20 KB/s). I figure maybe I'm in the top 20% of users and am being throttled (IS backbone) at the moment to half speed, but only during office hours. I don't know how much I've downloaded/uploaded so far this month (I guess 15-20 GB so far this month). The software I use to monitor traffic (NetMeter) tracks all movement, including network transfers on my home network, so that doesn't work. The OpenWeb control panel has apparently never worked since I joined on 1 May so I can't monitor usage there either.

Well my IS was slow yesterday and slow this morning...but now suddenly it's going at about 300kb/s on nntp. :)
