Sorry, should have specified, uncapped afrihost account
Sent from the MyBroadband iPhone App
I also signed up for the promotion, also to find out it was limited to one backbone.
Have since changed my subscription to the R738 p/m account so I can have a VB account, awaiting the 1st of September. Some searching of this thread did result in previous OpenWeb Gold promotions being limited to one backbone, think it was BCS, so I'm curious as to how you got a VB account on promotion Graal?
Perhaps MrBeep can comment?
I wouldn't have a problem at all if I were just told that I'm limited prior to subscribing, because for what Gold offers, R260 is still an excellent price.
I find it sad, because OpenWeb is an excellent ISP, and I'm more than happy with the Gold uncapped product I'm currently on, but there's something really off about not being told the full details of your product until after you've bought it and start experiencing issues. Therefore, don't take this as a complaint, MrBeep, take it as constructive criticism. You're doing an excellent job, and you deserved the title for ISP of the year, not WA. Just work on the little kinks, and we'll make sure you get top-prize next year.
Edit: I realise it sounds like I'm being difficult, but that's not my intention. I'd just like a bit of clarification on how things work.![]()
AFAIK Altech and VB on only available on 4meg.
Just remember, when signing up, you are signing up for ADSL, and not specified backbones or providers. So there is no need to disclose the backbone. Openweb is one of the only ISP's i know that have such a selection of products on different backbones, AND that Openweb allows shifting between backbones to best accomodate the consumer. If it's BCS or VB or IS or whichever, the product being purchased is ADSL.
Ya dunno. Normal browsing is incredibly slow. Pages I opened 5 minutes ago are still loading :/ (4mb gold uncapped)Something wrong today?
International browsing speeds are worse than snail mail. Problem loading pages, ping time-outs, speedtest.net not working via international along with MyBB speedtest.
Beo...
+1
Switching backbones is a luxury. No other ISP allows it. We should be grateful that some of us have the option, not disappointed that some of us don't.
according to all tests done the account is working 100% fine with no issues or faults. The issue experienced may be at your ADSL exchange or on ADSL line. Please contact Telkom...
Was unable to browse yesterday after lunch. Couldn't open MyBB, news24 or gmail.
Not acceptable for any account, shaped or not. Shaping is for torrents etc, otherwise I'm being throttled.
Reported issue, was informed via SMS that:
So, I'll try with a friends account and see what's what. Any increase in performance using a similar uncapped product, and I'll move (back to the devil) to MWEB, where the test account will come from.
Openweb's support hours are frustrating.
He does indeed. The service is excellent. That said looks like I'll be contacting him again for the third time this month :/MrBeep replies to support requests almost all hours of the day and night, weekends included. Very frustrating indeed.
SO what is the avrg gigs one can get on the 4MB package Gold (not special)? I would also like clarification but on the special, you are not allowed to change backbones?? Saw a post here but didn't see that in the terms on the site
I think changing backbones is a major advantage when comparing the other MAJOR isps. +1 Openweb![]()
What is Openweb like for usenet and torrents? Mweb is blocking usenet.
