I use the US ssl server on port 80 with 50 connections not that it makes a difference i get the same speed using ten connections

Thanks! One more question which client do you use?I tried grambit and only getting 150-200KBps where as with the rover client its max speed. The rover client has a crappy way of importing the nzb files:mad: driving me nuts

SAbnz or gtfo, best usenet client ever!!

Well i have had the webpages timing out issue the whole day, i rebooted and it's perfect now so i do see why it would work.

VJB why do you doubt it? VB has been full speed for now for 2 weeks 24/7

My VB accounts I have tried would like to disagree. Eventually had to switch.

I use newsleecher, i pay 2 dollars a month for it and supersearch. Grabit does not work with ssl it will start freezing and do all sorts of weird shyte. I could get it for from off the web but i guess you gotta support someone when you are using nzb's :D

I have heard sanzb is good but i like newsleecher as it extracts and pretties up the names so you don't end up with alt.biz.movies.blah as the file name, it renames it after the nzb not sure if sanzb does that.

That rover program is absolute shyte.

There's really no need to use anything other than sabnzb

I prefer using Alt.Binz, but hey, different strokes for different folks I suppose.

BTW, still downloading at 960kb/s this side, did 3.1GB in 1 hour :D

SABNZB works a treat. Thanks guys, I will give alt.binz a go later on

Alt binz & SAB are the 2 favorites, just depends which one you become accustomed too :).

Only reason i love SAB is the Sickbeard integration & it can be run as a windows service, so if pc reboots or was unexpectedly shutdown, the moment it boots it will start (this can be sorted with startup folder for any app) i just like the python feel of it :D. No am not a dev :p

On IS, was shaped as per norm wholeday but has pickedup since 9pm i think it was. 4MB Speeds here.

Also using Newsdemon SSL 80 with 40 connections. I did notice was shaped to 56k speeds earlier today but luckily i slept most of the day :p so didn't need to be at the pc.

Also if using SAB please upgrade to the latest version v0.6.9

I have the latest version,me like the SAB feel as well.
There are two files i could not download through SAB though but alt.binz is able to download it.My speeds on SAB is 400-450:) , alt.binz i get eratic speeds 150-315:confused:

I dunno hey, if i had to say there really is no reason to use linux i would be murdered so be careful.

sABNZB also renames... I recon its superior because it works with Couch Potato, Sick Beard and has various android apps to manage... I hardly ever see my PC.

Performance on VB Gold the past few days has blown me away.NNTP speeds of 1MB/s and even streaming,HTTP downloads which are usually sub-par are working like a dream.
Just wish I had something to download:(

Getting really good speeds at last again today. Will see how long it lasts.

I've been testing the new account Keoma issued me at the beginnning of the month for the last week or two:

---
There is still no difference. At exactly 7:00am every day my NNTP dies a horrible death and I'm reduced to average speeds of 10kb/s per hour and HTTP varies from being unusable to somewhat less than 384kb/s speeds (I'm on a 1mb line). Then at exactly 7pm all of a sudden speeds for both protocols return to normal.

Now you guys are forever stating that Gold Uncapped is subject to traffic load based prioritisation and not time of day based shaping, but judging by the statistics (and I have days worth of logs showing avg speeds per hour) and the nature of the slow period being so exact (i.e. to the minute) I would argue that this seems more like true shaping than what your policies state.

Now this has been going on for the last few months and frankly it's becoming a bit annoying since only once has this been sorted out and that required an entire account recreation from your side (not just a new backbone). This was temporary fix however that last until the end of the month (August '11) after which the same issue reared its ugly head.

Please advise as I'm now considering my options now as I'm starting to believe that the lower contention ratio that a Gold account is supposed to offer is either not in effect or is just not worth the extra money being forked out (in which case I fear for those than have non-Gold accounts since their connections must be utterly unusable for 12hours a day).
---

Note: I understand and support that certain protocols need to be prioritised during business hours, but I'm not happy with the degree to which this occurs and the way it's being effected (i.e. via what I would describe as shaping rather than load based prioritisation and the fact that HTTP also takes a heavy knock for some reason)
