There's a fair chance the ASA won't do anything if you complain about the "cap" since they don't cut off your connection, they just slow it down (I understand this meens less GB per month or 10 days, but regardless of the speed you can still only get XGB).

What the ASA should react to though is the advertised speeds, eg, you only find out about a 512K account being slowed down to half speed when you read the "fine print" or datails on the ISP's webpage. Instead of advertising 512 uncapped they should have to advertise 512k/256k uncapped.

It sucks I know.

Hmmmmm!

I also have one of those uncapped 512MB specials. First 2 days (18 + 19th) was brilliant - downloads @ full speed and browsing good. Then the next day (20th) I could barely browse - webpages were timing out, and could barely do anything. Left it for a day as I though something may be wrong with IS, but the 21at was the same. What i thought strange is that i was being disconnected every few hours or so, which NEVER happens with any of my other accounts. I then battled to reconnect...tried by normal IS account - stable, no disconnects and internet was fast! So wasnt too sure what was happening...

Presumed that I had bought an account with a threshold, and as I do pump my downloads - thought bleh....damn didnt think of that when I bought the account. So mailed MR Beep to be sure, and this is the response:

I would like to thank-you for your e-mail.

This account does not have a threshold attached to it.

Disconnections can only be caused by Telkom, as it is currently impossible for us, or IS to physically disconnect you from the line.

It has to take place at the exchange,.

So no threshold guys....so mailed him asking why its so bloody slow...

Thank you for the email.

I hav asked IS to monitor this account for me.

Have a superb weekend!

I unfortunately was not around on Saturday evening,Sunday and Monday. On Monday evening I see I was hitting about 70k, which is good. Tuesday the shaping kicked back in and went back down to like 10-15k, but browsing was good.

See this morning something is up again. Downloads are 1-2k, and webpages are taking forever and a day to open again....opening this page to post took at least 5 minutes...

The special makes it not *too* bad - but imagine paying R1400 for this account each month for these type of speeds...insane! Very disappointing...

Hey MrBeep!

As always - brilliant service!

I all honesty I feel that I got my money's worth for this month. Had some downloads that I was wanting to finish on the uncapped account - and I am almost there.

Can deal with it being slower/up and down for the rest of the month. ;) Though I will be honest and say that it has picked up and is working nicely again now...

Next time you have the special i'll grab one again...if it acts up as this one did then i'll take you up on your offer!!

Keep well! :)

P.S - My post was more of a response for the other guy who was also having problems, and to kill their "threshhold" theory!
