Openweb VPN strange problem - any ideas?

So since last month (approx 15 Jan) my Openweb VPN has been running at worse than dial up speeds.

I got my line tested and it is 100% fine. I could use my "international gig" to download at full line speed earlier this month yet when the VPN was connected it went back to being slow.

I contacted MrBeep about it but I have just been through a month of no fix. He doesn't know what's going on, neither does Verizon for that matter (I asked for an investigation to be launched).

Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone got any ideas about what could be causing it?

Some info: I live in Southern Suburbs, Cape Town (Claremont). If anyone else in the same area (Clareinch exchange specifically) is on the same VPN it would be great to compare if the same thing has happened.

I really wouldn't like to change package (10 gig unshaped at that price - very good deal!) but I am going to murder someone soon >.< Not to mention that no one at Openweb answers the phone (permanent lunch break) so it really doesn't help matters either.

Sounds like the same problem i have... browsing via the vpn isn't that bad. but downloads are at 1KB/S and constantly time out.

Strangely enough my problems also started around that time... 15/01. I'm busy doing some testing to determine whether the problem is with the VPN or local account (but to be honest I think it is the VPN...) I just wish Openweb used something more stable like OpenVPN...

It's the VPN 100% in my case.

I get full line speed on the local account but the VPN is on a par with dialup speeds and sometimes worse.

Browsing happens at about 7KB/s but can shoot down to bytes per second (measured with Opera - it tells you the speed that it is downloading pages at).
Downloads average about 6KB/s but will often time out.
Playing WoW is near impossible (unless I am in the middle of nowhere with no one else around). Going in to major cities will cause me to disconnect.

If I ping vpn.openweb.co.za I get about 45ms average response with no packet loss.

So it is a strange problem and MrBeep would rather move me off the VPN and on to a 5 gig shaped account for more money rather than try fix it. Getting hold of Openweb or MrBeep is near impossible by phone.

Hey Friends

We are still investigating why this problem is happening to SOME clients.

Can you please post where you are based. The problem could be geographical.

Just an update - spoke to someone at Openweb and he told me that they upgraded the VPN today so it may resolve some of the issues clients have been having.

They are aware of the problem (well I should hope so!) so suppose all we can do is wait around for a fix.
