Hi Guys,

Which one would you recommend for price and quality ? I am upgrading to 2MB ADSL uncapped and not happy with current ISP. I live in the Centurion (Valhalla) area.

Max downloads per month 60GB . I do work sometimes from home - downloads happen after 7. Like to have quick internet during normal hours.

Does anyone have the gold package from openweb ? surfing and working during the day. Downloads after 7-8PM?

Well I had enough of T1 Telkom and signed up for Cybersmart 4Meg Uncapped. Within 1 hour it was running worse than my Telkom a/c. I am sorry to say I flew off the handle (generally a laid back guy) and the next day did apologise for my rant. However, several days later and numerous polite messages and no one has responded. Before anyone jumps on me , I have done all the necessary tests. There is no congestion on my exchange and line is fine running on other accounts.

So I stay away from Cybersmart and Openweb? What other alternatives are there .? Not that I use internet daily but should be quick enough to do work - VPN connection?

I got an openweb gold leon 2 MB uncapped account... i stream in the evenings and weekends mostly in HD + download a few movies in the week... never had a problem with the speed and always on... i only got good things to say about the account

For day time if i am at home, i have the MWEB 5GIG for R70... works perfectly for browsing, email and some streaming, but i dont use it all up in any month, infact for this month i only used less than 1Gig...

so depends what you want to use your account for...

Not sure if you're sorted out yet but I recently took the Telkom uncapped 2MB account for R514.00 per month including fixed line/adsl + data.

So far its running like a dream(touch wood) , streaming is a breeze & downloads although not lightning fast fluctuate between 180/230KB/s which I can live with considering its just a 2meg line.

Openweb - Had it and cancelled. Shaping is terrible during the day even browsing is slow. From 6pm to about 8am you get full speed, no issues.
The only thing that wasn't slow during the day was netflix.

How long have you had it for? I am trying Afrihost now previously was with mweb and openweb. Streaming with Afrihost is not great, sometimes its really slow and other times its just fine. Maybe should now give telkom a try.

Going on close to a month now with no issues . There were the odd times where downloads were a bit slow but picked up within a few hours.
In all honesty , this is the first time I've ever had an adsl account so I'd be lying if I told you that I know for certain that TI is better that ISP x/y or z , just saying that I have no regrets since signing up with them.

Do however brace yourself for some frustration during the initial application process as you're gona hear "your order is still pending" alot . My account took close to month to be activated because some genius at the walk in store thought that leaving my application form & personal docs under his table for a week would somehow get things done faster

No, I haven't decided yet. But the Telkom internet sounds good.

Don't listen to capd, he's talking nonsense (he also recently went on a rampage in the OW feedback thread). I have a normal gold uncapped account with OW and I have absolutely no issues with it. I download during the day if I want to (yes it's somewhat shaped, but I'm not complaining, I can still watch Twitch, Youtube without any trouble during office hours). Plus after hours it's always unshaped and downloads max out my line. I can't vouch for the other gold packages, the normal one however is kick ass for me and suits my needs :)
