I'm on a small holding. From my house to the street is about 150m open wire. First guy that came out said that ADSL won't work, cause of open wire. He will send recommendation for line to be replaced.
When technitions came to install, they said they don't do line installations, so he can't replace the line, but he tested the line and said that ADSL will work as it is. They installed and I've never had a problem.
So my advice would be to get them to actually come out and test the line and not just stand their, look at the line and say WON'T WORK. (That's what the first guy did.)
Open line = Uninsulated wire, characterized by two wires running fairly far apart to form one phone line.
BTW, they also said that ADSL won't work at my place, because it's to far from the exchange.
