Opera 9 Released

yay.. im getting people to use Opera. feels pretty good.

I was also going to dump my Outlook express the other day for Opera mail, it is very handy and you can check email as you open your browser.
But I harldy ever use email except my hotmail account , so i dont care much for hte feature, but i think I would rather use Opera mail than Outlook if I had too.

you wont be dissapointed Toxin! unless... some pages might still be a bit messed up, this release was rather premature if you ask me.. they could have worked on it work another month or two and still launched their new browser long before FF 2.0 or IE7 come out.

Not a problem at all youve just got to choose one as your default... except that youve got IE installed.. maby you can live with just Opera and FF.. but rather take FF out of the equation if you are going to use only Opera for everything you can.

So how are you finding Opera 9?

Everytime there has been a new version of opera I have tried it but wound up going back to FireFox.

I used Opera before switching to FF and now I just cant get myself to switch back.

Version 9 does look nice tho but nothing great enough for me to want to switch.

I like the way Opera remembers what tabs you had open, Firefox should implement the same thing.

Other than that, I prefer Firefox... Mainly because I like the tab closing button (x) to remain in the same position.

Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Tabs > and uncheck 'Show close botton on each tab' ;)

The only thing that sucks is that the transfers tab now opens every time you save an image. Isn't there a way to disable this? I looked but can't find any and it's very annoying.

Thas is very handy.. thanks. It was really irritating me since Opera 9 came close to being finished and they implemented this.

Those two options almost cancell each other out, when Opera crashes (did a bit on the betas) then you can go straight back to exactly what you were surfing, its a life saver when youve got tons of tabs open.

And you really want to use FF for the close button?? As Ngaged said it can be the same in opera anyway.. then there are all the TONS of features and speed in Opera compared to nothing on FF besides the exstensions.

that's the 'sessions' thing, right?
i could be wrong, but i think there's an extension somewhere for firefox that does the same thing

yep, there is one, but with FF, you have to go look for it, with Opera, it's already built in ;)

I am using Opera 9 at the moment, and I must say, I quite like it. I like the fact that its built in download manager seems to be multi threaded ... am I correct in this statement?

One thing about the download manager, does it supprt resume?

I don't know about multi threaded, but it does download multiple files simultaneously if your connection is fast enough. I think your maximum connections has something to do with how many you can download at the same time. Go to Tool->Preferences->Network.

I have continued downloads in the past so I guess it depends on whether or not the server supports it.

I'm also not sure if it's mutlithreaded or not, but when I download stuff it goes at my line's maximum speed, so for me it doesnt matter.
