Opera CPU hog

The problem I have with Firefox is the sandbox issue, if you have too many tabs open it's a memory drain. I don't know Safari but played a bit with Chrome.

One reason I like Opera is the bookmark sync, it works really well for me.

I've been an Opera devotee for years -- not ready to switch just yet. And your problem definitely doesn't sound like it's generic. A quick check reveals my Opera to be taking only 2% of the CPU's cycles, and 9 MB of RAM. So definitely not a system hog!

What I DO find however is that it takes a while to launch on my rather 'mature' system. And it has the odd idiosyncracy -- like not allowing me to browse this forum, for which I have to switch to IE because Opera keeps returning me to the home page whenever I click on a MyBroadband link. Ah well, let's just call it a lovable quirk....

After a google I found some posts where people say I must disable sound in web pages. It helped a bit but I'm still getting 99% CPU usage now and then.

I'm on 9.61 and it happens on my notebook and pc

It depends on the tab. I'm using Firefox and there are times where it'll use up 100% cpu resources till I close the offending tab. Doesn't matter whether you have 20 or 2 tabs open.

I messed up tab is the problem.

Is it just me or does Opera 9 tend to use all my CPU at times? Especially when trying to log into gmail?

Opera has never been a resouce hog for me - and i have used it for years now.

And i always have 15-30 open tabs.

I check my gmail way too many times throughout the day, evening, morning - and dont have the hog problem
