Just discovered this app. I thought it was still in beta.

Very impressed so far.

Anyone else using it?

Basically it's a VPN which, amongst others, compresses data sent and received, meaning you use less. Lots of other functionality as well.

Thoughts?

I have been using it since it became available for SA earlier this year, it is absolutely fantastic.

I have deleted and reinstalled multiple times, but have now had it for a solid 2months after Opera sorted out its power consumption.

What I love is how it now allows compressing WiFi data to, and now also supports compressing YouTube as of this week's update.

I have a tendency of burning through my 5GB mobile data before month end but Opera Max has stopped that, or at least allows reducing the data consumption when I'm near my limit.

My only complaint so far is that it doesn't seem to reduce Facebook consumption, whether through the app or through Chrome.

And that's a lot of my monthly consumption. That thing chows data. Is there some setting I'm missing?

That is very true. The best thing one can do with Facebook is to go into FB settings, set it to Never Refresh data, also set it to not Auto Enhance Images and turn Off Auto Play of videos.

Also, go to the builtin Android Data Usage app in Settings, and go to FB and set it not to Restrict Background data usage.

Yes, don't allow pictures or don't use facebook use twitter instead

Cool. I've done the videos and auto enhance. The background data usage is always comparatively low for me. Where do I set the never refresh setting?

Well I'll be damned, it seems they removed the refresh frequency setting in the latest Facebook settings. I am looking for it bu cannot seem to find it.

Yes. I only have to refresh the feed a few times when on 4G and I've already gone through like 10MB :(

That is madness.
Yeah, FB is a data hog. The only other way to avoid its high data use is disabling it and downloading Facebook Lite.....but TRUST ME, you do not want to do that, I tried that and it was the worst 10min experience I've ever had.

Ya. Something is also killing my battery.

That's one of the reasons I'm looking at going the Huawei Mate route next. Massive batteries in there. I'd settle for a slightly less eye-popping screen if I could get through a day without having to charge the thing twice...

https://www.facebook.com/lite/

This version of Facebook uses less data and works in all network conditions.
Facebook Lite is:
Fast to install – the app is less than 1MB
Quick to load
Efficient with data
Designed for 2G networks and areas with limited network connectivity

Edit: Tsepz_011 beat me to it :p

I didn't realise it was a legitimate app, made by Facebook.

Going to give it a try...

That isn't good. I am a heavy user but my Note 4 makes it through the day easily.

Maybe try restricting performance, although, the phone should last a day without having to do that.

Go to Settings -Power Saving -Restrict Performance -tick both Display and CPU.

You may have a rogue app eating power though.

OK I've charged to 100% and tried power saving.

Next I'll be back complaining that my performance is not up to scratch

I am back.

With a complaint that performance isn't up to scratch

I definitely found lag when power saving was on. Just doing normal day to day tasks. Not for me :(

Opera max also seems to chow a fair bit of battery itself...

Which Note 4 do you have? The N910F (Vodacom), N910C or N910H?

Sorry to hear that man.
