Opera Mobile 10.1 beta released for Android

im quite happy with the standard browser on my desire (2.1)

In South Africa, if you not using Wifi, i dont see why anybody would not use Opera Mini.

I don't use the stock browser, its either Dolphin HD (wifi) or Opera Mini.

Kind of. Android uses a clone of the JVM called Dalvik. Technically it's not Java but the language is very similar. I'd imagine porting it from Java wasn't too hard.

I guess if you're on Cell C 3G you could surf along just fine but otherwise ya I totally agree.

Android also allows for native code. Opera Mobile for other platforms is C++ I believe. Not sure if they converted all of it to Java for the Android version. Page rendering is probably native code for better performance.
Maybe they have some actual info on this somewhere. I haven't even tried it yet, going to download it now.

Takes up 20MB space on the phone... 13MB once you move to sd card... too big for me. I can't try it out because I already uninstalled what I could and still don't have enough space...

Nice, I'll download this tonight when I'm at home with my wi-fi connection. Although they'll be hard-pressed to improve on the stock browser on the X10.

Well tried it, its EXACTLY like Opera Mini, what gives? Oh no my mistake, exactly the same but about 8 times as large... On Symbian etc the two were vastly different..

Well this actually renders the page on your phone, so dynamic webpages should work better, for example.
