Hi guys...I wonder if you can help me? If this is not the correct place to post this then please point me in the right direction.

I have just downloaded Opera 10 to give the turbo function a go. I would like to see how much data it can save on my bundles etc. Browser instaled but everytime i enable turbo it comes up with "Turbo currently unavailable...unable to establish connection"

Have or are any of you using this function with success?

I am running Linux Mint if that makes a diff.

Ive tried it, usually does that when the idiot signal goes away. Still, after some time it goes back to 2x at least.

Is the button always green? Try perhaps from a different location.

Btw doubt its ur OS, turbo is server side compression so theoretically it should even work on cellphones.

I just tried it and its working on my side so its not a server problem. I don't use it, found it too slow.

Laptop is connected to ADSL via Wi Fi. Button is always green but with a exclamation sign over it. When I hover mouse over it says "opera turbo currently not available" It has not worked once.

i also use Opera but have been having endless problems with it. i just looked at that turbo thing and i also get the error message. i think the only good thing about Opera is the speed dials.

When I tried to use it before it sometimes took a while to connect. Do you have a firewall installed? Maybe it uses nonstandard ports?

urm...not sure. I have never installed firewall...unless Linux Mint comes preconfigured with one? I used to use "onspeed" and that saved a hell of a lot of data via compression, but it is not available for Linux...so thought Turbo might work...but seems to be a pretty useless marketing gimmick.

I have found that the best way to maximise my bandwidth savings over 3G is to use my 3G phone as a wifi hotspot using joikuspot software. Opera Turbo then goes up to 7x speed and uses very little bandwidth. Awesome!

I dont think that will make a difference....if it does not work with ADSL via wi fi, and does not want to work with 3G E220 modem....then dont think it will work with phone connected via wi fi. Also, my phone does not have wi fi.

I don't think this is a marketing gimmick. Opera mini has used a similar compression concept for some time - very successfully I might add. The new Opera mobile will also utilize the Turbo feature.

Decided to try out Opera because of the turbo function and when I it use this is what I get

It doesn't always happen but happens too often. I'm using Opera 10.52 is this happening to anyone else?

Edit: just checked the version I'm using was released 2 days ago, so I might revert to a earlier version and see if the same happens.

My experience with turbo mode is that it is latency dependent. I tried on my 384K line ADSL, but because of large international latency, it kept bombing out. It works like a charm if you have service with very low latency (for international users like in US or Scandinavia their internet is all "local" with super-fast lines and low latency--for them this function works like a charm. I have tried turbo mode when I travel to US and it flies.
