I was prescribed 60 x 50mg Tramadol pills for my bad back back injury a month back. The dosage was 1x50mg pill per day, twice a day for a month. The dosage was completed this Sunday.

I find myself jittery and unable to sleep well and am experiencing a feeling of general malaise/some loss of appetite etc. from Monday evening. The pills did their job well and the benefits outweighed the risks to be honest.

What can I do to make the Opiate and SSRI withdrawal a little easier? (The doc did tell me that I will experience a few days discomfort after my dosage regimen is done.)

Lucky I didn't get the effects afterward you mention here. I was on Tramadol but also some much much stronger stuff. With the Oxycontin I struggled to sleep with the first batch I was drinking - totally opposite to what the leaflet was warning about.

My bet is to just sit it out. Should not last longer than a few days max. What you rather should've done is to gradually lower the dosage you took towards the end. That is why I never had this issue. Small tip I got from people in the know.

Should have asked the doc for something to taper it down over time.

Without meds there really isn't much you can do, beyond staying hydrated and taking some Ibuprofen to get rid of the aches.

You can also try some Melatonin for the sleep issues.

why is Oxycontin wordfiltered to xxx? Anyways, yeah I would have titrated the dosage toward the end if I knew. The thing is tramadol affects both serotonin and opiate receptors in the GaBa system so its a double withdrawal as compared to a normal opiate like vicodin or oxy/hydrocodone.

I'm currently taking a valium to sleep and some stilpane and vitamins for relief at night. Seems to help but I feel uncomfortable at around 3-4am and wake up. Getting up in the morning today was quite a task, even the worst hangover I've had is childs play compared to this.

At least it was only a month - I know someone that went off Tramadol after many years of use. Was not pretty.

I would imagine you will just have to tough it out.

Sorry, that was my mistake.

That do suck, but I got a whole bunch of Vitamins also as supplements and to help negate the effects that the Oxycontin had, during and afterwards. Maybe consult the dr to give you something to help. It really sucked the no sleeping part and nothing I did really helped for that.

Good luck, hope it gets better soon. I'm used to it by now - all the headaches and feeling *****, but its been with me for 6months now and won't go away for a couple more.

there is a shady side of me that I do not like to discuss, OP if you are interested I will PM the story.

Personal Experience Water, and get up when your body makes you feel uncomfortable. your circadian rhythms have been messed up completely. the only way to fix that is to let your body run its course.

most important thing is keep busy. get into series, online games, gardening, knitting anything and everything. 70% of what you are feeling is psychosomatic. it sounds really harsh to say but I promise you it is. when you keep yourself insanely busy with things you enjoy, getting up at a random time in the morning will not be a chore. this is where online gaming came in for me.

for me the symptoms you are talking about lasted about a year. after a few weeks I got my body into a regular sleep cycle again.

just over 10 years later now, and I don't have any issues. I do however avoid taking Opiate based painkillers. sure some times there is no other way. but even then I make sure its not just my brain faking the pain to get a fix.

That ^!

Your are so correct in what you are saying there! Its when I sit still and not really do anything that I really notice the head aches and all the other stuff. We I get really busy, it is still there but I don't really notice it (or try not to), as I am busy with other stuff. Routines has become a really important thing for me and if I break that I suffer.

It sucks, but I am used to it and although it wasn't my choice to be at this point, I choose to make this things not impact on my daily life - at least as far as humanly possible. :)

And then I read also read things like what Baxteen just said and realize that I could've had it worse...

UPDATE:

I'm feeling almost normal today. I still have a few brain zaps, a mild headache that I took care of with some panado and sleep is getting better as I no longer wake up at 3am and have restless legs. I locked away my benzos and codiene that I was using for relief during withdrawal since I no longer need it.

The worst part wasn't the Opiate withdrawl from the Tramadol, but the SSRI withdrawal from the Tramadol since that medication is both a powerful painkiller and a "mood enhancer" in one. The SSRI withdrawal made me feel down in the dumps for 3 or 4 days...pretty nasty. The opiate withdrawal was not even worthy of mention.

smoke a joint

Marijuana sends me straight into a full blown manic attack. The last time I smoked a joint I ended up taking my tire iron and smashing everything in the house including my pride and joy - the model ship that i had built out of matchsticks over 3 years. I eventually had to go to the trauma unit where they sedated me for 12 hours.

Going cold turkey on ssri's can be really hectic to some. Always better to taper down over a few weeks/months. The quick change can be really dramatic.
Out of interest, did ssri's give you wrestles legs, or have you had that before?
