You really shouldn't be using two anti-virus programs at the same time. More trouble than it's worth.
Agreed, both trying to prevent each other to access the file might cause your system to hang or worse the virus to deliver the payload.
Best free AV = Linux, after that MSE should be enough, and now comes part of the OS as from Windows 8.
Keep in mind With using Windows you need to keep your system updated otherwise the viruses can use Windows exploits that bypass the AV completely. Linux Fedora FTW <3.

I use Comodo Internet Security, which is a free firewall/antivirus bundle. You can also get just Comodo Antivirus without the bundled firewall.
