Opinion: Best FREE Antivirus software

Avast! Hands down mate. I have never, and I repeat, never had a virus in the two years that I have been using it. It picks up threats instantly and you can do what you please with them. I really dig their interface too.

MSE+Avast. It is like using 2 condoms.

I think.

You really shouldn't be using two anti-virus programs at the same time. More trouble than it's worth.

Agreed, both trying to prevent each other to access the file might cause your system to hang or worse the virus to deliver the payload.

Best free AV = Linux, after that MSE should be enough, and now comes part of the OS as from Windows 8.

Keep in mind With using Windows you need to keep your system updated otherwise the viruses can use Windows exploits that bypass the AV completely. Linux Fedora FTW <3.

To be honest same goes to Linux, you need to make sure you update it, but the fear is not because of virii, more because other exploits and malware.

I use Avast free antivirus, along with Malwarebytes.

Company pc uses latest version of AVG and when I bring my stick home from work there is always a hectic virus that comes along with it that Avast detects the second I plug my stick into my pc. I have concluded that AVG is crap.

No wonder people think that Linux users are a bunch of arrogant twats :erm:

If you're an ABSA client, another option is to use their free Trend Micro 2012 AV

Personally, MSE all the way. I've also heard some good things about avast from friends.
