I just found out I can purchase an Apple iPhone 8Gig for $495 with free shipping from Apple themselves. It is an employee perk for the company I am with. I think the 16Gig was $100 more or so.

Is this price reasonable, and whats your opinions of this phone?

Even if it is a good price I would hate to fork out that much money if it is not that great. I prefer some of your comments rather than reviews etc.

I love my iPhone. It's a really great device.

I'll start with the shortfalls:

1) You can't MMS - I never do, who cares
2) The web-browser is excellent, but you can't do pages with flash. I use it mainly to check up on forums and news site etc, so doesn't bother me there.
3) Only had edge, so no 3G/HSDPA...but excellent Wifi Support.

I get bored of phones very quickly and promptly sell them. I've had my iPhone for a while now, and it's just great!

will you be able to unlock it?
I hate anything that does not run on Symbian.

Not sure, but seeing as it comes from Apple and not through a third party phone company or such I doubt there will be anything to lock in the first place.

I could be wrong though :p

I'm 100% sure it will be locked...

But you will be able to unlock it in 3 min straight from out the box.

How can you unlock it?

Easy, ziphone 2 unlocks any iphone, just plug your iphone into the usb dock follow the steps, BAM! done and fully unlocked :)

I've done it myself it is the easiest method so far...

Its a rip off now to pay a premium for unlocked iphones, I bought my iPhone still sealed and locked but at least I can guarantee that it was brand new and not second hand.

i bought an iphone and it works great! only downside is no 3g!

the amazing thing about it, is that with firmware updates it "improves" itself with new features all the time and with sdk being released soon, the phone is gonna become unstopable!!
at the moment u can even use skype on it!!

One downside for me is that you cant pair it with your PC using bluetooth, Only iPhone compatible ear pieces and accessories can be used with bluetooth.

Also you cant import sim contacts, there is an app available to do it but you have to pay for it and it crashes on the new firmware :(

i imported contacts from my previous phone onto outlook then when my phone sunced it picked it all up!

The iPhone is a flawed beast at best. I hate the lack of real keyboard, typing is the biggest mission ever for me. This might be because I came from a Nokia E61 that had a qwerty keyboard and I was much faster on that. This might be less of a problem for those coming from a normal keypad.

The web on the phone is phenomenal though but the email implementation is a bit lacking. All in all it's a good phone if you're not using it for a lot of sms's or any major emailing because if you are then you will be tearing your hair out.

i also came from an e61, u get used to the typing thing eventually

The email on the iPhone is the best email application I've ever used. Full HTML email, easily accessible, easy to find old items. Yes, you can't edit attachments and the phone takes some time to forward emails with attachments, but it's the best email interface I've used.

Yes the mail is good, I take advantage of Gmail's IMAP with the iPhone which saves on bandwidth costs since I'm using vodacom.

Have seen it but apart from the UI, I think the offerings from the regular guys (SE, Nokia, HTC) are much better, you can do a lot more with these phones.

I must disagree on the email concept. Sure it does full HTML but it just hangs forever when downloading some emails and is lightening quick on others. Drives me insane!

All in all, it's an okay phone. There are much better phones out there but the iPhone is what I would call above average.

hmmmmm lol mixed opinions then :p

Maybe I will wait for my Voda upgrade rather than splash my money :/

Thanks for comments all :)

There will always be mixed opinions. Look at all the E90/Tytn II threads, everyone says the one they chose is better - why? Because it suits them. You'll get mixed opinions even if you ask what phone you should take on your upgrade. Goto youtube and watch some video's of the iPhone and decide for yourself.
