Opinions on FPS keyboards

I've been thinking about getting a zboard fang or similar gaming keyboard for FPS gaming. I'm not a professional or hardcore gamer, but was wondering what others think of them and whether it's worth getting?
 
I have seen some of those Zboards, one for WOW (with keys all at one place for spells etc) <---- wich is quite nice..

But seriously. First person shooters , all u need is Up , Down, Left and right arrows and your mouse :>> Maybe a control for ducking, or maybe a key to open doors, or a jump key (if u don't use a jump key on the mouse already)

But it depends on the person i suppose, if one needs a flashy keyboard and have a few hundred smackers lying around, then sure :>
 
If you are looking for a keyboard with extra buttons I like the Logitech G15 I got a while back. Still trying to come up with ideas for stuff to map to keys, there are so many options. Its not for everyone though, the keyspacing takes a little getting used to and the LCD can be a waste if you dont want to use it
 
Generally great for gaming and crap for typing IMO.

/ Me says this who only has a R29 Cheapy keyboard :P /
 
Got the G11, IMO not worth the extra tom for the display u never gonna use ;)
 
i also got the G15... and i used the display quite a bit when playing BF2142 cause there was an applet designed for it.... now that i play COD4 with no applets available, i must say i hardly use it....

handy to have the clock display on though when the watch is lying in another room... :p
 
The ZBoard fang is not so cool, they are struggling with drivers although there are some guys busy with some beta versions that are a lot better but still have a long way to go.
I actually gave mine away as it never really worked well at all.
I use a Belkin Nostroma N52 Gamepad and it really rocks - paid R400 for it at DigitalPlanet
 
I got my pal an Ideazon Merc Stealth, which he swears by. The salient point for him is that the game keys are angled, per a 'natural' keyboard which alleviates his RSI in that wrist.

I've looked at it a coupla times 'n what I like is:
- it has all the number keys as part of the game keys, useful in Quake where you need ALL the numbers for weapons!
- it's a damn solidly made 'board, it's heavy enough not to slide around on you and the keys have a good, non-plasticky weight as well as good travel and response.
- 2 downstream USB sockets at the top of the 'board, as well as mic/phone

Obviously something had to give with the inclusion of extra keys and the numeric keypad/arrow keys/usual pg up/pd dn/etc are all scrunched up together, but you will learn the new layout in time, it's just a matter of getting used to it. About the only thing that doesn't work that bugs me is that 'window key'+pause/break no longer works, dammit! :rolleyes:

Bear in mind that this is the crowd that gave us the Zboard, the gaming keyboard is their raison d'être.
