Opinions on Mecer laptops.

Downside with the Lenovo is the GT 630M. The GT 640M, based on Kepler architecture, will be much better for gaming.

Also, Lenovo's have either 1 or 3 year warranties AFAIK. This one might have 1 year.

Gigabyte has GT 640M and 2 year warranty.

Now I need to weight out that information with the R700 difference. See, my dad's buying it and he was initially looking at around R5000-R6000. I'm pushing the old man a bit.

Thanks a million though, will keep all of it in mind. Chances are, I'll take the Gigabyte because I want to game.

Obviously a different laptop then. I've installed Windows 7 on more than a hundred different laptops/desktops since it was released and most of the machines have very few driver issues. I did one last week that had every single driver built in (Compaq).

Most common missing driver for me was mass storage. That Mecer was a standout because it had several missing drivers and it took a long time to source each one.

You should just have to find what Clevo model it is & then you should be able to get them here

I guess the tricky bit is the branding - ie: a Sager NP9150 is in reality a Clevo P150EM - same for Mecer

Can you vouch for the build quality of a Gigabyte? I've done some research on the GT630M vs the GT640M and there is a noticeable difference, pushing as high as a 60% performance gap in some games. If the quality is credible, then it is an obvious option.

I agree, in the price range it's the obvious option. In fact surprising that they have GT 640M's, competitors don't come close.

Gigabyte laptops are good quality. I've seen the Q1532 and P2532 and was impressed. Much better value than Asus with similar warranty (2 year).

I honestly wasn't expecting that much of a performance gap. I probably won't use it to the max, but you never know. Rather try and buy future proof I suppose.
