That AMD CPU performs very well in multi-threaded environments, but an Intel Haswell Core i3 will outperform it in most games and other single-threaded environments.

So if you're going to lots of rendering work, which can make use of multiple CPU cores, you'll benefit from that 8 core AMD cpu. If not, I'd rather recommend that you stick with an Haswell i5.

+1 Chevron is like me AMD all the way its cheaper and provides better performance then intel and Nvidia (in some cases) I was gonna advise pretty much the same build as you put but id change the board tho for R500 more it will last longer to http://www.wootware.co.za/asus-m5a97-r2-0-amd-970-sb950-socket-am3-atx-desktop-motherboard.html ill recommend this board to anyone its brilliant and not expensive.

I like it as well but the dude had a budget. Something else would have to suffer.

Ya I know its tough when people are on budget. OP if you haven't ordered already try get R500 more that board is alot better.

I just bought a i5 gen3 second hand, put it into a R600 MB and got myself some 4 Gig ram at R500
Total cost, R2400

And it works, playing Watch Dogs with it, although I'm stuck with an Radeon 6790 for now, which scores in the 2000 according to passmark.
